この頃、潮入川の近くの休田？！が池のようになっていて、茶や黄緑の水草が覆うっていた。 畦道をずんずん進みポッカリ天を写す岸に立って２．７ｍ程の竿を伸ばしてグッピーのような小魚を夢中になって釣った。 ヒバリが垂直に上昇し力いっぱい何かを発表していた。 感心するほど高い処にホバリングし声がしても姿が見えず、頭を思いっきり後ろにのけ反らせて真上に豆粒程の黒い点を見つけた。 コンロで焼くと”ジュウ！、ジュウ！、……！”と脂が焼けた。
