肉厚のスエードに、生ゴムのアウトソール、金の刺繍を纏ったタグ、丸ヒモ、、、同時期のどのスニーカーと比べても、斬新なデザインに仕上がっている。モデル名を”unknown” としたが、いまだわかっていないのが現状だ。
thick suede, gum outsole, golden sewn tag, round shoe laces....compared with the shoes of same era, this shoes contains unique design. i mentioned its model name ”unknown,” to be honest, we don't know its name....
このシューズの最大の特徴が、このタグではないだろうか。黒のベース生地に、金の刺繍がしてあるのがわかるだろう。
そして、インソールの素材も面白い。日本製のベロに使われていたような8mm圧のそれよりも、もっと分厚いスポンジが使われている。
The characteristic point is its ”TAG.” As you see, it is sewn by golden thread on black nylon material. Its insole is also interesting. It is used thick sponge which is thicker than the tongues of made in Japan ones.

1972年、ナイキは幾つかの工場にサンプル生産を依頼した後、台湾の工場にて最初のコルテッツを生産することを決めたと言われている。写真にあるのが、台湾の工場で作られたナイキの第一号製品の1st コルテッツだ。このスニーカーを語る時、その頃まで遡ることになる。
In 1972, after the testings of making samples by several factories, Nike decided to order to the Factory in Taiwan. Upper photo is 1st Cortez which were made in the factory in Taiwan. When we talk about this UNKNOWN shoes, we have to go back to the era.
その台湾製コルテッツの内部にあるスタンプが上記の写真だ。

これは、少し後の同じく台湾製のスパイク ターフクイックの箱と靴内部に貼られていたステッカーだ。
こちらも、JMLから始まる同式のスタンプが見てとれる。
This is the box of Turf Quick made in Taiwan. We can see the same style sticker on it.
そして、このモデル不明のスニーカーの内部にも直接スタンプしてあるのである。

Furthermore, the UNKNOWN shoes also have the samp.
色違いの紺白のものには、7530と違うアートナンバーが記載されている。
The blue-white one has also same stamp but its Art No. is different, 7530.
このことから、やはりこのスニーカーは上記の２種と同じ台湾の工場で生産されていたのであろうことは容易に想像がつく。
Seeing from the pictures, we are easily able to think that the UNKNOWN ones were made in the same factry of Taiwan.
残念ながら、今の段階では公式に販売された記録が無く、正式なモデル名もどのくらいの数があるのかもわからない。
Unfortunately, we don't have any catalogs or leaflets of them. In addition, we don't know the number were made.
このモデルをニセモノと呼ぶ人もいるかもしれない。しかし、そうすることは如何せん早すぎるのではないだろうかと思う。
Some people may call this UNKNOWN shoes as ”fake.” However, I think it's too early to do so.
なぜなら、この20年間で、このモデルを10足程手にして見てきたが、そのサイズが８～11までと多岐に及ぶのだ。
Because, in this two decades, I've seen about ten of this ”UNKNOWN” model, and its size are different. 8～11 inches..
そして、一番のポイントが、その品質にある。そのアッパーは、当時としても最高級の牛革を使っていて、ライニングに至っては、スムースレザーになっているからだ。
どちらにせよ、疑わしきは罰せず。今だ謎のままのこのスニーカーが愛おい。
The benefit of the doubt. The sneaker still has mysterious points. So I love it.
