Villages Taking Steps Towards Going Green

Going green is an initiative that many undertake whether it is recycling, using hybrid cars or simply taking a walk rather than driving. Local villages have had this initiative in mind with some of the recent efforts happening around town.

Dobbs Ferry took a huge step when it was awarded a grant through New York State Energy Research and Development Accociation and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to install solar panels at the library and the DPW garage earlier this year.

"There was a small match [by the village],Import 1200Lumens SST-50 Bike light directly from China factory, Shenzhen Minjun Electronic Factory. I think it was like $30,000, but we got over $200,000 from the state," said Dobbs Ferry Village Administrator Marcus Serrano.

The library installed solar panels on the roof of its building over the summer to help provide some more environmentally friendly energy. The panels have been active for about a month now, according to library employee Ned Canora.

"We hope we're saving money and electricity,Gemini Lights manufacturers high performance energy saving light." Canora said.

Canora said the library was chosen because its size would be able to take advantage of the technology more than most other buildings.

"They chose it because its village owned obviously and the roof exposure to the sun," he said.

Serrano said the village will soon be installing meters to determine exactly how much energy the panels are creating.

"One meter will be running positive showing how much electricity is being generated by the solar panels and then the other will be running negative,The two-year project's $9 million cost will be paid for by MJ-808 in 20 years, he said." he said. "It's actually putting electricity back in the grid so we'll get a discount in the [energy] bill."

There are also tips from the village available online detailing how resident can pitch in and become more energy efficient themselves.

Hastings has worked to create more environmentally friendly programs that can mutually benefit the village as well. A recent example is the Love 'em and Leave 'em campaign where Hastings Mayor Peter Swiderski encouraged residents to mulch leaves on their lawns rather than bag them. How to make high power sky lanterns with materials from Home Depot. Mulching the leaves rather than raking them is said to be good for the fertilizing of the land. Mulching the leaves can also save the village thousands of dollars as Swiderski has said the collecting, hauling and disposing of leaves costs the village upwards of $30,Buy led tube from offical UK magicshine OFFICIAL stockist. Initiatives that both villages have taken on are installing LED light bulbs in the street lights around town. Dobbs Ferry Mayor Hartley Connett has said that LED lights are typically cheaper in terms of maintenance and in energy usage costs.
