Message Title: The Feasts (1) The Sabbath, the Feast of the Passover, and the Feast of Unleavened Bread
Exodus 5:1 And afterward Moses and Aaron came and said to Pharaoh, Thus says Jehovah the God of Israel, Let My people go that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.
this is the first time in the Bible, showing us that God wants His people to be released from slavery under Pharoah, to hold a feast unto Him. what does it mean to hold a feast? footnote on "feast" says that, "to hold a feast to the Lord is to worship Him with the worship that He desires, by enjoying Him in His presence. This worship invloves sacrificing to Him. The worship God desires is that in which we enjoy God as our provision through His dispensing of Himself into us, and then rest with Him in what we enjoy of Him. " so God's intention in saving us is that we would feast unto Him to render Him the genuine worship.
in the New Testament, after the Lord has come, on the night before His crucifixion, He ate the feast of Passover with His disciples. that was the end of the Old Testament feasts.
Matthew 26:17 Now on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the passover?
Matthew 26:18 And He said, Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, The Teacher says, My time is near. I am keeping the passover at your housewith My disciples.
Matthew 26:19 And the disciples did as Jesus directed them, and they prepared the passover.
Matthew 26:20 And when evening fell, He reclined at table with the twelve.
at the same time while ending the Old Testament feasts, the Lord also initiated the New Testament feast, the Lord's table.
Luke 22:14 And when the hour came, He reclined at table, and the apostles with Him.
Luke 22:15 And He said to them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer,
Luke 22:16 For I tell you that I shall by no means eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
Luke 22:17 And He received a cup and gave thanks and said, Take this and divide it among yourselves;
Luke 22:18 For I tell you, I shall by no means drink from now on of the product of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
Luke 22:19 And He took a loaf and gave thanks, and He broke it and gave it to them, saying, This is My body which is being given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.
Luke 22:20 And similarly the cup after they had dined, saying, This cup is the new covenant established in My blood, which is being poured out for you.
as New Testament believers today, week by week, we are charged to come to the Lord's table. Every Lord's table meeting should be a feast. in Luke 22:16 and 18, the Lord says that He shall not eat or drink until the kingdom of God. this implies that in the future, in the kingdom of God, we will still be eating and drinking, be feasting. what are we eating? what are we drinking? let us see the last chapter of the Bible, Revelation 22.
Revelation 22:1 And he showed me a river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb in the middle of its street.
Revelation 22:2 And on this side and on that side of the river was the tree of life, producing twelve fruits, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
if we read these two verses, we can see that, we will be eating the fruit of the tree of life, and will be drinking of the river of water of life. this will be our destiny and job in the eternity future.
I. the feasts in Leviticus 23 were for rest and enjoyment and typify Christ as our rest and enjoyment
from the first two chapters in Genesis, a record of God's creation. God did work for six days. and on the sixth day, after God created man, what did God do? ok, let us read the Bible to find out the answer.
Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth and all their host were finished.
Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God finished His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
therefore, on the seventh day, after God finished all His work, God rested. and this day was the first day for man after man was created. so man's first day was the rest day. this tells us that God's intention was for man to enter into His rest, and to enjoy all that God has accomplished for man. but, look at today's situation. where is rest? where is enjoyment? who is resting in God? who is enjoying what God has prepared for us? because of the evil works of Satan, the devil has worked out a whole world system to enslave, to oppress and occupy us, to put us under heavy labor, full of anxieties. of course, God realises our current condition. This is why we have the following verses in Matthew, calling us to come to the Lord.
Matthew 11:28 Come to Me all who toil and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
though Satan's system is oppressing and afflicting God's people, the Lord Jesus came to offer rest to all those who are burdened and toiling.

Song of Songs 1:4a Draw me; we will run after you
the verse here is quite interesting, because it says "dram me, we will run after you"
as individuals, while we are drawn by the love of Christ and pursuing after Him, this will attract and motivate those around us. and this will cause them also to rise up and run after Christ, as our companions. as a believer loving the Lord, all of us should be and should aspire to be the cause for people around us to be attracted by the Lord and love the Lord.
- life study of Genesis chapter 53
S.S 1:2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine.
S.S 1:3 Your anointing oils have a pleasant fragrance; Your name is like ointment poured forth; Therefore the virgins love you.
here, the seeker of Christ has signified the love of Christ as the wine, the cheering wine. the wine here signifies the cheering love of Christ. whenever we are down, just by thinking of the cheering love of Christ, we are cheered up.
in verse 3, the ointmentpoured forth signifies the name of Christ. His name, which is His person, is like the ointment poured forth, giving out the pleasant fragrance. No one can reject such fragrance. No one can reject His cheering love.
that is why the concluding sentence says that "therefore the virgins love you"
the Lord is the most lovely, beautiful, attracting One in this whole universe. we love Him because He draws us and attracts us with His name, and His person.
