4 of Sun Records original recording artists to Sun Studios to make
new recordings.

Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins & Roy Orbison reminisce
and perform in Sun Studios. An All-Star jam finale includes Rick Nelson's
last TV appearance.

ロックの生まれた場所と呼んで差し支えのない米国メンフィスのサン・スタジオに
ロック草創期のスタージェリー・リー・ルイス、ジョニー・キャッシュ、ロイ・オービソン、そしてカール・パーキンスが里帰りした企画。
このそうそうたるメンバーで一発目が「メンフィス・テネシー」なのでたまりません。

実は筆者もメンフィスのこのスタジオ訪ねたことがあります。
長年このスタジオに勤めてプレスリーも知っているという方のお話をうかがうことが出来ました。
筆者の「このスタジオでお会いになった方で最も強いインプレッションを受けた方は誰ですか？」
と言う質問に対して。
「カリスマ性はやはりエルビス以上はありえない。例えジョン・レノンと会っていてもね。」
「でも、一番好きなのはカール・パーキンス。彼は本当にフレンドリーでナイスガイだ。」
とのことです。

メンフィスにはプレスリーの「グレイスランド」、スタックス・スタジオ、アレサ・フランクリンの幼少期を過ごした町。
B.B.King（彼とプレスリーとサム・クックは空港から出迎えてくれます）、ロバート・ジョンソンの眠る墓、
マーチン・ルーサー・キングが天に召された場所、ギブソンの工場…
近代音楽を愛する者にはここでは紹介しきれない名所が多く存在します。

以外にもここで有名だった日本人はSO！さんです。
誰かと思いきやカージナルスに在籍していた田口壮選手のことで
彼はカージナルス参加の３Aメンフィスの中心選手で、
メンフィスではスターだったようです。

日が落ち始めるとビール・ストリートのブルースクラブのネオンが輝き始めます。
どのブルース・クラブも敷居の高い店はありません。

そんなメンフィスの町を映像とインタビュー、そして素晴らしいメンバーでの演奏で
解説される素晴らしい映像。
英語が出来なくても一気に見ることが出来ますよ。

メンバーだけを見れば史上最強バンドともいえるARMSコンサートの最終日の音源。
最後のMSGだけロン・ウッドも参加。クラプトン・ペイジ・ベックと三大ギタリストにサイドギターでアンディーまで入っているのに
ここでさらにロンが入っても…というのが本音。
しかしすごい面子です。
最終日に来てもペイジ先生の調子はいまいちで、やはりギターソロでは
クラプトンそして何よりベック先生のソロが光ります。

やはり天国の階段からの3大ギタリストそろい踏みは迫力あります。
特にLaylaのピアノコーダに入る前のハモリは最高。

音は8日は当時としてはこれ以上は望めないくらいの
サウンドボード音源を一蹴する高音質オーディエンス。
9日は8日より落ちるもののやはりハイレベルなオーディエンス録音。

BEANOレーベルはクラプトンの書籍で有名な方のテープを基に作成されているそうで
この音源も本当に素晴らしい音です。
気になる方は聞いて損はないと思います。
個人的にARMSで1つと言われたらこの8日の音源を薦めます。

ロックの殿堂の今年のライブ
今年はアメリカン・ロックの大御所が勢揃い。
この面子だけで、何もいわずに聞くべしと行きたいところ。
音はオーディエンスですが抜群に良くて非の打ち所なし。
すべて聴き所なんですが、CS&Nは普段あまり聞かないので割愛。
ポール・サイモンのステージでは期待通りガーファンクル登場。
来日公演のあまりにも素晴らしいステージとハーモニーが
記憶に新しいところですが、この日はちょっといまいち。
「明日にかける橋」最後のハモリの部分、合ってません。ずれまくってます。
意外とCS&NとのHere Comes The Sunなんかの方がうまく合ってたりします。
このバージョン、ジョージ・ハリスンとのサタデーナイト・ライブを思い起こさせます。
スティービーのステージのほうも素晴らしく
ここでは個人的に「迷信」でのジェフ・ベックとの競演が素晴らしく
ジェフのソロでの観客の大声援は感動的。
そしてB.B.King！たった１曲ですが存在感抜群。
もう、ここにたって歌ってくれているだけで充分。
でも相変わらずギターはごっついエロいです。
ブルースのステージも言わずもがなですが
Proud Mary、Pretty Woman は完コピ＆モノマネつきで面白い。
ここではやはりビリー・ジョエルとの競演でしょう。
New York State Of Mind のデュエットは感動的です。

と言うことで迷っておられる方はまずは聞くべしです。

で、このコンサート、この人ある意味化け物です。
米国人間国宝認定。とにかく聞くべし。
