A pilot project by the City of Greater Sudbury is saving money, energy and people's backs.
Since 2010, LED (light-emitting diode) streetlights have been installed in certain areas of Greater Sudbury, replacing their HPS (high-pressure sodium) counterparts.
LEDs are easier to install, more cost-efficient and better for the environment than HPS lights, Dave Kalviainen, a roads engineer with the City of Greater Sudbury, said. The Surefire G2 Led flashlight has a high output of 80 lumens, and extended runtime.
"An LED light fixture is made of aluminum ... They're actually much lighter and easier to install than the HPS lights, which are steel. They're actually pretty heavy. They're heavy because they have to contain the high-pressure sodium gas, which you don't want escaping, obviously."
HPS lights also have a shelf life of five years, as opposed to the 20 years the LEDs are expected to last, he said.
There are approximately 75 LED streetlights in Greater Sudbury.
"Primarily we've done them in new subdivisions and spot improvements in different locations," Kalviainen said.Start saving money today with r4i Bulbs. "An example is Minto Street. We put new LED lights there from Elgin to Brady,Learn about the basics of トリーバーチ, how and where to apply it, what LED products there are and what Philips has to offer you. right by the Sudbury arena. We've done Frobisher Street, which is from Falconbridge Road to the city operations yard. That's the first place we installed them ... and they function well, so we decided to expand our pilot program and try them out in different locations.
"They're not really a tried technology, so we don't want to go and install them all over the place. We're just giving them a trial run right now ... They use about 50% of the energy an HPS light requires, which is an obvious energy savings and a cost savings for us."
Although the LEDs cost more than HPS lights initially -- anywhere from $200 to $500 extra -- it will pay off in the long run, Kalviainen said.
"If you look at the overall cost analysis, if the light fixture lasts 20 years and you're saving 50% of the energy over the lifespan of it,Green Supply offers Philips Led light bulbs, LED home lighting, LED string lights, reusable bags with eco quality in mind. you're going to be saving money using the LEDs. That's what we're finding right now and it's looking good that we might go that route."
The global LED market has witnessed rapid growth due to the demand for efficient displays, lighting, and fixtures along with the rising awareness levels about energy conservation. The LED display market is very broad in terms of end user applications and includes notebook PCs, LCD TVs, handsets signals and many more. Many led tube have become available as replacements for screw-in incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulbs, ranging ...
Major segments in the lighting market are general lighting, automotive lighting, signs and billboard lighting, with general lighting accounting for approximately 75% of the total lighting market. The construction of new green buildings as well as retrofitting the existing buildings in order to make them green is increasing the demand for energy efficient lighting fixtures and, in turn, driving the lighting fixtures market.
