1.General term for things introduced to Japan from China.
This term has been used since ancient times,but during theMuromachi period in particular many excellent products,including ,paintings, furnishings,textiles,and tea impriments of the Tang,Song,and Yuan dynasties were imported to Japan,and were refered to as karamono.Since then, the term has basically implied those particular Chinese imported to Japan in Muromachi period.
2.One of the shikaden,four transmissions in the chiyanoyu study system.It falls under the category of inherited transmission and concerns the method for usinga karamono chaire.
