ところで、ふと気になってShogiとググってみて、いろいろ面白いページを発見しました。
イギリスで将棋を指す人がいるなんて予想だにしませんでした。確かに、羽生が海外での将棋普及のために活動しているなんて噂は聞いたことあります。

↑のケンブリッジ将棋クラブの代表者に早速メールをして、次の例会がいつか聞いたところ、
「残念ながら今はもうやってないんだ。数年前までは結構指す人がいたんだけど今はいなくなって、僕も今は指さないんだ。」
というメールを頂きました。期待してたのに、がっかり。
でも、折角なのでもう少し機会を探して見ます。将棋を伝えるのは日本文化の素晴らしさを伝えることにもなるし、お友達も作れるし。

Today I found some interesting websites on Shogi. I have never expected to see Shogi international club. It remided me of the rumor that Mr. Habu is contributing to development of Shogi oveaseas.
I sent an email today to the Cambridge Shogi club above to ask when is the weekly meeting. Unfortunately, I received an unfavourable reply.
The below is the REAL reply.
"I'm afraid we haven't had any meetings for a few years now. Most of the people who used to play have left the town, and I don't play any more. But I think if someone had enough time and energy to start a club at the University, some players would probably come out of the woodwork."
※ところでこの out of the woodwork というのは面白い表現ですねー
思わず辞書を引いて調べてしまいました。

Anyway, I was so disappointed with that.
However, I am going to try to find another chance. It might be good to tell Japanese culture and to make friends by teaching Shogi to foreigners.

Anyway I like shogi a little also. But one time I saw foreigners were playing chess. It was also very interesting for me. The movement of some class pieces is very similar as shogi.
It is also my first time to receive a comment in English to my blog:-). I am very happy to hear that you are enjoying both the Japanese and English versions. I promise I try to continue this as much as I can.
Speaking of Chess, I learned how to play it here. The movements of pieces are quite similar, but the difference makes the Shogi more outstanding. First, there are a lot of promotions happening in Shogi, but few in Chess. Second, the captured pieces are reused in Shogi, but never in Chess. I think this re-use system makes Shogi more exciting especially in the ending stage.

チェスについては、私もこちらに来てから覚えました。駒の動きはとても似ていますが、違ったルールを将棋を一層面白くしていると思います。第一に、将棋では「成り」が頻繁に起こりますが、チェスではほとんど起こりません。第二に、将棋では「持ち駒」を使うことができますが、チェスでは使うことができません。この持ち駒制度が終盤の醍醐味を生み出していると思います。
