Yesterday I picked up my 2 yr old granddaughter from daycare and we went to McDonalds for some 'Grandma and Me' time. It was about 4 PM and I knew she'd be hungry for chicken and dip-it fries. You don't know what 'dip-it' fries are? Well, they're fries waiting to be dipped in a big pile of ketchup!! At least that's what she calls them! And now I do too toughest phone case.
Anyway, we happened to sit down in a booth across from four Japanese women. They were around 70 (+?) and were so delightful. It wasn't the Mah Jong group like in the movie...it was the coffee klatch group! They sat for over an hour and laughed like young schoolgirls, and talked and hugged and had the best time! They spoke in their native language so I couldn't catch anything they were saying but the were busy discussing something for the entire time we were there. But here's the stitch...they all had rollers in their hair covered by very pretty, yet completely different, scarves. I had to smile. I mean all four of them? Did they come from the beauty shop? Do they wash and roll their hair on the same day every week and then meet for coffee? Are they friends from the old country and all met again here in Dallas or did they meet here once they emigrated? Are they related? As they left I noticed they came in two different cars. One lady drove herself and the other three piled in the same car...the driver and her two passengers in back. None of them could barely be seen above the seats. Such a funny sight! Oh how I envied their friendship. What a wonderful wonderful way to spend a couple hours lingering over a cuppa at McDonalds waterproof phone case!
And then the little one looked at me and said 'Grandma, they are friends!' And it amazed me even a two year old picked up on the love for one another these women shared. I said 'Yes honey, you and I are friends too!' and she replied 'No, you are just my Grand-ma!!' OK, so she's smarter than I am.
