As we say good bye to 2011 and prepare for the New Year, it is customary to reflect back and remember the movies that premiered, songs released and new products that were launched.
As designers, our world is ever changing with ideas, and situations in which to use new products.
It is so exciting to look through magazines and see hardware, tile, lighting, and accessories.
One of the newest trends in all of the previously mentioned items is leather.
Ostrich wallpaper, cabinet hardware that has the look of ivory or bone, leather floor tile, leather and metal outlet covers and even sconces with natural python stems. A touch of leather adds texture and has a classy feel.
Natural elements such as sinks shaped like an oyster shell, beaten bronze or copper is another very popular new idea.
Natural marble such as Carrera and Calcutta gold is being used in every size and shape imaginable. Shower walls accented by smaller marble floors has a timeless appearance and paired with white subway tile, the classic grey and white color palate will never go out of style.
We have seen the very dark brown cabinetry in cappuccino have a huge presence, but softer painted cabinetry is very popular because of its clean and open feel. Custom paint options have been added by most all cabinetry makers at minimal cost.
Soft pastel colors in blue and green along with periwinkle are incorporated into glass tiles to mimic water, and sea glass in spa like bath design. Sea shells as accessories add to an all natural feel.
When looking for color palates always notice nature. God does it the best, and sometimes a simple piece of drift wood or a dear antler found in the woods makes the exact statement you need on your coffee table.
What else is hot?
Things that grab your attention and say something about your individuality. I feel that we are more appreciative of our world around us because of harder times.
It is nice to design areas for relaxation and family that have an individual aspect and know that when ever that person is there they just love it!
