Sofia Gubaidulina

Galina Ustvolskaya and Reinbert de Leeuw
London Sinfonietta
Friday 13 October
Queen Elizabeth Hall, London
The UK premiere of Valentin Silvestrov's 1965 modernist Second Symphony, contrasted with his ecstatic setting of Keats' Ode to a Nightingale (1983). The concert begins with Gubaidulina's virtuosic Dancer on a Tightrope, for violin and piano, and ends with Galina Ustvolskaya's 3 Compositions - an instrumental Mass - some of her greatest music.
