Gun Machine's opening pages are a shotgun-delivered statement of intent: a naked lunatic is gunned down in a frantic shootout that approaches black comedy, along with one of the two police detectives who are pursuing him. It's a ludicrous pace with which to open, and one that, you would assume, Warren Ellis would be unable to maintain.
