According to the Japan Police, the death toll from the East Japan disaster had reached 15,578 on 17 July 2011. Miyagi prefecture has the highest number of deaths - 9315, followed by 4597 in Iwate prefecture and 1600 in Fukushima. The number of people missing is 2569 in Miyagi prefecture, 2215 in Iwate prefecture and 282 in Fukushima. The total of dead or missing people from this disaster is now 20,648.
