Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy put out a discussion paper two months ago, explaining the fishery was under pressure and a new balance was needed between commercial and recreational catch limitschina study.

At the extreme end of the options is a proposal to cut the daily catch limit for recreational fishers from nine to threebest iphone cases.

The deadline for public submissions is 4pm on Friday.

Mr Guy insists he hasn't made any decisions yet and says it's very unlikely the catch limit will be reduced to three snapper a day.

Prime Minister John Key has promised the views of recreational fishers will be taken into account, and he caused a stir last week when he said people were more concerned about the snapper quota than they were about the GCSB bill.

Earlier this week, just-resigned Labour leader David Shearer brought two dead snapper along to question time and held them up, saying it wasn't fair for commercial fishers to be allowed to catch fish as small as 25cm while recreational fishers had a 36cm limit.

Labour agrees the fishery must be sustainable but says the government should throw out all the proposals.

It hasn't suggested any alternatives.
