Pull one's leg (足を引っ張る) 英語での意味は・・・? 身体にまつわるIdioms

日本語と同様に、英語にも慣用句的なものが存在します。
公式文書で使われる事は稀ですが、日常会話の中では
頻繁に使用されています。

ただ、言葉に関する感覚がとても離れているため、
知らないと「なんじゃそりゃ?」って感じになってしまいます。

例えばタイトルのPull one's legは、
『からかう、ジョークを言う』
という意味です。
「他人の行動を妨げる」
ではないんですね(*´Д｀)

という事で、今日は身体にまつわる表現を
いくつか紹介します。

cost an arm and a leg
= very expensive
「とても高価な」
ex. It costs an arm an a leg.
※腕と足が持ってかれるくらい高い、というニュアンスですかね。
恐ろしい・・・。

see eye to eye
= have the same opinion, agree on each other
「同意見だ」
ex. They see eye to eye on many issues.

heartwarming
=full of pleasure
「喜ばしい」
ex. The story of the dog who saved the life of its owner was a heartwarming story.
※心温まる、というニュアンスですね。

no elbow-room
= very narrow, no space
「とても狭い」
ex. There is no elbow-room
※肘を置くスペースもない、という意味ですね。

put one's foot in one's mouth
= to say something by mistake
「失言してしまった」
ex. I really put your foot in your mouth.

hand it to someone
= give a credit to someone
「◯◯を信用する」
ex. I handed it to her because she did really good job.

the cold shoulder
= ignore
「無視する」
ex. She gave him a cold shoulder

by word of mouth
= by speech, oral communication
「口頭で」
ex. I knew the party by word of mouth

on its last legs
= end of usefulness
「使い物にならなくなる」
ex. The car is on its last legs.

stuck one's neck out
= take a risk for something
「◯◯に対し危険を冒す」
ex. Mary stuck her neck out Jack by recommending him for the job.

twiddle one's thumbs
= do something when one is bored
「暇つぶしをする」
ex. They kept me waiting for three hours with nothing to do but twiddle my thumbs.
※イライラして指回しして待ってる、というニュアンスですかね。

put one's finger on
= find an exact reason
「明快な理由を見つける」
ex. She was worried about the project, but couldn't put her finger on what was wrong.
※「これだ!」と指を指す、というニュアンスですね。

lose heart
= lose hope, confidence
「自信・希望を無くす」
ex. We soon lost heart that we would be rescued.

give one's right hand
= can't help doing something, desperation
「◯◯したくてたまらない」
ex. I would give my right hand for some good chocolate.

go behind one's back
= betray
「裏切る」
ex. She went behind his back and asked for the promotion, even though she knew he wanted it.

on the tip of my tongue
= about to say an idea
「喉まで出かかっている(けど思い出せない)」
The answer is on the tip of my tongue
※舌の先っちょに乗っかってるんだけど出てこない、という感じですかね。
