Day 21

Shibata Castle

新発田城

It was too early to enter.

朝早すぎて入場できず。

Tsukioka Hot Spring

月岡温泉

I refreshed myself for going across the Sado Strait.

佐渡海峡越えに向けて英気を養う。

 

The weather was not good, but I was excited.

天気悪くもワクワク止まらず。

 

There was the poster which showed the topography of Sado Island.

佐渡島の地形を示すポスターを発見。

Two mountains were conected with each other by one plain land.

二つの山地が一つの平地でつながっている。

佐渡本間家能舞台

Ａ pair of pots made in Seto was set under the floor to make the acoustics better.

音響効果を高めるために、瀬戸産の甕が床下に一対置かれている。

佐渡国分寺跡

There was a descendant of the oldest temple in the east side.

東側に奈良時代の国分寺を継承した現在の国分寺がある。

I tasted Sado ocean's blessings.

Day 20

 

Shirakawa Seki, Shirakawa Checkpoint

白河の関

Tohoku Region is the north of this point.

これより以北が東北地方である。

It was called "Mitinoku".

東北地方はかつて「みちのく」と呼ばれていた。

Shirakawa City.

白河市。

Komine Castle.

小峰城。

 

Shimogo Town.

下郷町。

Ouchi Juku.

大内宿。

It was the post town of Aizu Nishi Highway which was paved in the early Edo Period.

江戸時代初期に整備された会津西街道の宿場であった。

The road connected Aizuwakamatsu with Nikko Imaichi.

この街道は会津若松と日光今市をつないでいた。

I stood as if I had been in Edo Period.

まるで江戸時代にいるかのようだった。

 

Aizuwakamatsu Castle.

会津若松城。

Another name is Tsuruga Castle.

別名、鶴ヶ城。

This castle was attacked by troops of the new government in the Boshin Civil War in1868. 

戊辰戦争で新政府軍の攻撃を受けた城だ。

Musyabashiri. Troops could easily go up the stone wall.

武者走り。兵士たちは容易に石垣を登ることができた。

 

Mt. Iimori.

飯盛山へ。

Sazae Hall.

さざえ堂。

Byakkotai, White Tiger Unit fought against the troops of new government in the civil war.

白虎隊は戊辰戦争で新政府軍と戦った。

It is said that they were forced to kill themselves on this Mt. Iimori.

彼らは、この飯盛山で自刃に追い込まれた。

I live on the lives of a number of predecessors.

先人たちの死の上に今の自分の人生がある。

I cannot help but think how I live my life.

これからどう生きるべきかを考えさせられる。

 

I said good-bye to Fukushima Pref. at Inawashiro Lake.

猪苗代湖で福島県に別れを告げる。

I went to Niigata Pref.

新潟県へ。

旅心スケッチ 東日本編19日目

Day 19

I explored Fukushima Pref, hiking from Mt. Issaikyo to Mt. Higashi-Azuma.

福島県を探索する。一切経山から東吾妻山へのハイキングだ。

It was june... Did snow remain here? 

すでに6月。雪は残るのか、、、

From top of Mt. Issaikyo.

一切経山山頂から。

The eye of witch.

「魔女の瞳」が見える。

Sugadaira

酸ヶ平。

From Mt. Higashi-Azuma.

東吾妻山から。

Mt. Azuma-Kofuji.

吾妻小富士。

 

Beautiful flowers made me relaxed.

花たちが安らぎを与えてくれる。

I understood why Japan was called the volcanic island not only in my brain but in my experience. 

日本が火山大国と呼ばれる所以を頭で理解しつつ、実体験としても理解する。

Day 18

 

I was not able to use the road requiring toll.

有料道路は使えない。

That's why I had to go back the same way  again. 

そのため、来た道をもどる。

上杉鷹山公

said, "You can do it, if you challenge and you can't if not. The reason you can't is your no challenge."

曰はく、「なせば成るなさねば成らぬ何事も　成らぬは人のなさぬなりけり」。

It seems one truth.

ひとつの真理のようにも思える。

旅心スケッチ 東日本編17日目

Day 17

 

I found nice wild hot spring.

ナイスな温泉を発見。

This area is called "Semi Onsen".

この辺りは瀬見温泉と呼ばれる。

Benkei first discovered this hot spring after he cut the rock with his Japanese halberd "Semi Maru".

かの武蔵坊弁慶が薙刀「蝉丸」で岩を斬り、温泉を見つけたという。

I wonder Semi Onsen's "Semi" derived from "Semi Maru".

瀬見温泉の「瀬見」は蝉丸に由来するのだろう。

I couldn't gather the courage to take a bath in front of the houses...

立ち並ぶ家を前に温泉に入る勇気が出なかった。

 

Sakata City. Warehouses.

酒田市。倉庫群。

Rice was stocked and shiped on Japanese Sea.

米が貯蔵され、日本海で輸送されていた。

The structure of the roof was unique.

屋根が特徴的な構造をしている。

Yamagata Pref. is divided into 4 parts.

山形県は4つの地域に分けられる。

The north west part including Sakata City is called "Shonai".

酒田を含む北西部は「庄内」地方と呼ばれる。

This area has been famous for the rice production.

この地域は昔から米の生産で有名だ。

I could learn that history in Shonai rice history museum. 

写真の博物館でその歴史を学ぶことができる。

 

I went up north to Yusa town.

北上し、遊佐町を目指す。

胴腹の滝

I got water from Mt. Tyokai which was located between Yamagata and Akita.

山形県と秋田県の県境に位置する鳥海山。そこから流れてくる水を飲む。

The water journey intersected my journey.

水の旅と私の旅が交差する。

 

Yusa Town. The water was clean.

遊佐町。水がきれいだ。

I was surprised with this color.

この色には本当に感動をした。

 

I went south to Tsuruoka City.

鶴岡市まで南下。

Shonai feudal clan school Tidokan 

庄内藩校致道館。

It was closed on Wednesday.

水曜日はお休みだ。

 

I went in mountains area.

山の方に入る。

I could not find this national treasure in the Japanese history textbook.

歴史の教科書ではみつけられなかった国宝。
