The heavy rain of this summer in Hiroshima city has caused lands slides and serious damage in the regions of Asakita and Asaminami. Please allow us to extend our deepest sympathy and sorrow to those who have suffered greatly. We, the Shinkouzousha, do hope and pray that the affected area will be cleaned and rebuilt as soon as possible.
Shinkouzousha was founded as a non-governmental group in Taishou 5th, 1926. In the year of Shouwa 3rd, 1928, the department of pictures was newly established. Then the following year, Mr. Eiichi Mimura from Hiroshima, who was a main figure for starting Shinkouzousha, sent his work in for the first time. Eventually this came to be, one of the Three Famous Fall Art Exhibitions in Japan.
Enduring the difficult situations during the World War II, Shinkouzousha went through a stressful time. However, we continued our activities, making cooperative efforts with other groups in the form of a self-supporting-coalition. This finally became the general art exhibition group consisting of five departments such as paintings, prints, sculptures, crafts and photographs.
The long history of Shinkouzousha has been built under these philosophies as follows: First we aim at studying fine arts and exhibiting the works as the results. Second we put emphasis on the artists’ efforts to improve their character based on the mental attitude as the pure outsider of the art world in Japan. Third each of us should study and create works as individual beings, who are completely free and independent from any “ism”, and respect each individual’s character.
Here we would like to invite you to view and enjoy seeing the works of the Hiroshima branch members, as well as some of the works from the 86th Shinkouzouten art work exhibition held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. We look forward to receiving your feedback and comments if you are able to visit and view our exhibition.
