各プロセッサのメモリ利用状況 (リーク状況) を把握出来るようになるのは良いのですが、数千の
プロセッサを GUIベース(TotalViewの基本は GUI)で追っかけるのは無理があります。
全プロセッサのメモリ利用状況を一枚のグラフで可視化してもらえれば、あるプロセッサブロック
でのメモリの異常利用が発見でき、それがアプリケーションによるものかシステムの通信メカニズム等
によるものかなどの切り分けにも使えるかもしれません。
いずれにしても、大量データの役に立つ可視化(良くを言えばデータマイニング)技術が不可欠です。


プラットフォームでは、Cray XD1: Cray HPC Enhanced Linux(Based on SuSE Enhanced Linux 1.1)
を明記しています。ということは Crayが拡張したプロセス同期機能のデバックもサポートするのでしょう。
("業界標準の Linuxを採用していますので、世界中に開発者がいますから安心して下さい" と宣伝
　しながら、実際にはカーネルに特殊な変更を加え、自社サーバではその独自の Linuxしかサポート
　しないけどそれは明確化せず、いざトラブル時には、「Linuxはオープンソースだからサポート外」
　と開き直るサーバ会社もありますからねぇ)。
Cray Inc. は Cray HPC Enhanced Linux の採用とその理由を公開しているので信用出来ます。


TotalViewは機能が豊富なので、使いこなすには慣れが必要そうです。
個人的には、プロファイラ (パフォーマンスアナライザ) とスムーズに連携して、ボトルネック候補から
TotalViewが起動されると、使い勝手も良くなるのではと思います。
