見果てぬ夢

息子を送り出す朝
ついこの間まで 会社に送り出す時のように
日常のほんの一コマのように
行ってらっしゃいと 言った

それでも 心の中は とても複雑で
見果てぬ夢の歌が 繰り返し流れていた

To dream the impossibe dream, To fight the unbeatable foe,
To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go,
To right the unrightable wrong, To be better far than you are,
To try when your arms are too weary, To reach the unreachable star!
This is my quest to follow that star!
No matter how hopeless no matter how far
To be willing to give, when there’s no more to give
To be willing to die so that honor and justice may live

And I know. If I’ll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
when I’m laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable stars!

成し得ぬ夢を夢見、服せぬ敵と戦い、
耐え難き悲しみに耐え、勇者が行き難きところへ走る
正し難き誤りを正し、今の君よりもより良くあらんとし、
君の腕が疲れ増すも挑み、届かぬ星に届かんとする！
これがあの星に従い私が追い求めること！
たとえどれほど望み無く遠かろうとも
与え続けよう、もはや与えるもの無きときも
死さえ厭わぬ、誉れと正義が生きるなら

私は知っている。私がこの栄えある挑みに誠であらんとするならば
我が安息に横たわるとき、心は安らけく穏やかなることを
そしてこの世がより良くあらんとなるはこれがため
彼の蔑まれ傷に覆われたひとりの男は
なおも最後の勇気の力を振り絞り挑むのだ
届かぬ星に届かんと！
