A Bluetooth headset such as the New Bee LC-41 is a great way to simplify your day, whether you are at work or running around. You don't have to hold your phone up to your ears or in your hands. Instead, your smartphone can be used to communicate, play music and manage your audio features. You won't be disturbed by others, unlike when using a speakerphone. The super-pricey New Bee LC-41 was my test device. I wanted to find out if its design, sound quality, and other features make it a viable budget Bluetooth headset.

Design: Inconspicuous

It measures just over 2 inches long and 0.6 inches wide. You can choose from black, gold, and white. It has a glossy exterior and a silver trim at the bottom. This headset is more typical than other electronic devices I have tested.

The New Bee has three buttons that are hard to access. They are conveniently located so they are easy to reach. One side houses a slider switch that can be used to turn the headset on or off, while the volume control switch is located on its opposite side. You can press the glossy surface to end or answer calls. The name of New Bee is printed on the front. It's much easier to answer calls while performing other tasks because the call button's size is large.

Comfort: Wearable for long periods

Although the New Bee LC-41's lightweight is comfortable and easy to wear, it can be uncomfortable for longer periods of time without an ear hook. The New Bee will stay in your ear if you aren't doing any heavy exercise. However, if you go to the gym, or run, then the hook will be helpful.

A pair of high-quality earbuds can make music playback almost as good as a quality pair.

Ear cushions feel soft and comfy and don't feel forced. The loop on each ear cushion helps to keep it in place, but it is flexible so that it does not push against your ears.

Better quality sound for calls than music

HD voice, clear voice capture (CVC) and 6.0 noise cancelling are some of the features offered by The New Bee. Although the call quality is excellent overall, I did hear a buzzing sound when the headset was turned up to full volume. Despite the buzzing sound and the distance between the microphone and your mouth, my voice was still heard clearly by the person on the other side of the phone. The speaker was able to hear me clearly.

Surprisingly the call was even more clear when the corded headphones were added. This may be because of how the corded earbud's ear cushions allow for more sound to enter the ear canal.

The New Bee produced less static when listening to music at higher volumes. It played better on low volume and had clearer sound quality on high volumes. Although the sound quality is not as good as a pair of high-quality earbuds for music like Bose SoundSport wireless headphones, I was able to enjoy music from the New Bee headset with no disturbances.

Features: Accessories galore

Compatible with many devices: The New Bee headset works well on Android and Apple phones as well as tablets, laptops and MP3 players.

The New Bee's battery life is excellent and the accessories included in the box are great. You get a carry case and two additional ear hooks. There are also three ergonomic ear pillows (large, medium and small). The New Bee can be worn with or without an Ear Hook; the Black New Bee comes in clear and black hook options. Clear hooks are only available for the gold and white New Bees.

A wired earbud is also included. This can be plugged into the New Bee's top and placed into your ear. You can extend the distance between your New Bee's speaker and microphone. Two earplugs are included in the package, which can be used to block noise from your other ear while you listen or make a phone call.

The Status BT One wireless headphones are a great choice if you want the very best. They look great on paper, but is it really worth the price?

Too many plastic

The Status BT One headphones look premium from afar and even in advertisements. Their design was disappointing to me. Although they are not cheaply made and seem to be very durable, I am not sure that the headphones can withstand daily wear. The backs of the earpieces are made from metal. However, my concern is about the plastic joints connecting them to the headband. I found that one of the joints became more loose than another as I used them, and this doesn't make me feel confident in their longevity.

The BT One's lightweight of only 155g is a plus. It can be easily carried with minimal weight in your bag or pack. The headphones fold down to be compact and can also be folded flat to fit around the neck. The BT One includes a protective case which holds your headphones in place. It also has a pocket to hold the USB cable and 3.5mm audio cables.

The controls are easy to use and can be distinguished by touch. The BT One uses a switch instead of a multi-function power button to turn the headphones on or off, which is what I prefer in some cases.

Installation: It's easy to connect

It's easy to get started with BT One. Simply turn them on and pair them to your phone. There are no companion apps, or additional steps you need to take. You'll be ready to listen in just a matter of minutes.

Comfort: As light as a feather

Even though the Status BT One's design is a bit dated, these headphones have a lot of positive points. They are remarkably lightweight and very comfortable. The headphones also expanded to a size I could comfortably wear and didn't pinch me. They are well-padded with faux leather exterior and soft padding. The headband padding is high quality and breathable. They were comfortable to wear, even for long periods.

Sound Quality - Excellent for listening but terrible for speaking

Status BT One's main strength is its ability to reproduce your favourite tunes. The 40mm driver performed well and gave a generally excellent listening experience.

The Sound Quality of the Status BT One varied depending on what genre was used.

My audio testing begins with listening to 2Cellos' cover of Thunderstruck. This provides me with a broad range of tones. Although the Status BT One was able to render mid- and high notes well, it struggled with reproducing the songs deepest tones.

The BT One reproduced the throbbing fuzz sounds of Godzilla by Fu Manchu well, and with great clarity and distinction in instrumentals. The headphones are best suited for rock music, with the bright sounds of The Hives' lead guitar playing Walk Idiot Walk.

When I listened carefully to Phil Garland’s Soon May the Wellerman Come (where the BT One had trouble with the darker acoustic tones), it was clear that my penchant for rock music sounds. It did an admirable job reproducing vocals and high-toned instrumentals.

The sound quality on the Status BT One was excellent. It varied from very good to exceptional depending on the genre. There is no active noise cancellation, nor much passive noise cancelling, but sound leakage was very minimal.

Unfortunately, the BT One microphone does not provide excellent audio quality. It's not ideal for holding telephone conversations. Some calls were reported by the other person as muffled voices, while others had a distinct echo which made it almost impossible to communicate.

Battery life: Wireless listening for days

The headphones' lack of active noise cancellation meant that the Status BT One never required me to charge it during the 30 hours of listening. These headphones are capable of providing wireless listening for up to 30 hours, which I find very accurate. You can also plug in an audio cable of 3.5mm if your battery runs out. The battery takes several hours from empty to fully charge.

They were comfortable and I didn't feel uncomfortable, even after wearing them for a long time.

Range and Capability of Wireless: Lower than Advertised

Although the Bluetooth connection is fine in my BT One, it's not as strong as other wireless headphones. The Bluetooth One has a tendency of cutting out when it transmits through thick walls or bushes. Although Status states that it can transmit 25 meters, I discovered this would not be the case in real-world conditions. Its range was roughly half the distance in real life.

Prices: Affordable

The MSRP for the Status BT One, $120, is not a great deal. However, it's often available at a price of $80 which provides surprisingly good value.

Status BT One vs. Marshall Mid ANC

While the Marshall Mid ANC is a better option, the Status BT One on-ear headphones are more economical than those of Marshall Mid ANC. The BT One has a better audio quality and longer battery life than the Marshall Mid ANC. It also offers a more comfortable fit, especially for those with larger heads. The Marshall has excellent active noise cancellation, exceptional audio quality and top-notch construction quality. While the Marshall seems like it can last many years, the Status is fragile and likely to fail.

Final Verdict

Despite its good sound quality and reasonable pricing, the Status BT One's design is shaky.

The Status BT One has many great features. The BT One is lightweight, compact, affordable, has good sound quality, and lasts a long time. The BT One is not made to last due to its plastic hinges. The headphones have mixed reviews.
