WHEN or WHENEVER?- Confusing English Words #shorts
WHEN and WHENEVER are not interchangeable. They have slightly different meanings. Learn how to use these two words correctly. Hi folks, Charlie here! Today, I want to talk about the two words "when" and "whenever." Let's see if we can figure out how to use them correctly. If it's a unique event that happens one time or you know the date or time, then we use "when." Here's an example: • The fireworks will go off when the clock strikes midnight. • When I was a kid, I used to believe in magic. It's best to use "whenever" when an event is repeated so it happens over and over, or we don't know the time or date. Here are some examples: • Whenever I get in the shower, the doorbell rings. • I'll help you with your English studies whenever you get serious about learning. We can say, "When I get in the shower, the doorbell rings." But it's better to use "whenever" to give the idea that it happens every time. It's also okay to say, "I'll help you with your English studies when you get serious about learning." But it is better to use "whenever" to convey the meaning of "at whatever time you get serious." I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
