It's not easy to be green (緑でいるのも楽じゃない）

またラジオねたで恐縮ですが、今日流れていたのでとっても可愛かったのが"It's not easy to be green" という曲でした。これは、セサミストリートの緑のパペット（カエル）、カーミットによって歌われた曲で「緑でいるのも楽じゃない」という題名です。これをまったくまじめにモダンジャズとして女性ジャズボーカリストが歌っていました。最初は吹き出しちゃったのですが、よく歌詞に気をつけてきいてみると、実はとっても感動的でチャーミングなうただということがわかったので、今日はこの歌詞をこちらに載せてみます。

Pによると「子供の頃はまったくきづかなかったけど、これは柔らかくアンタイ・レイシズムの曲でもあるんじゃないかと思うんだ。」なるほど・・・そう思うとセサミストリートは深いな。。。私にとっては、メーテルリンクの童話「青い鳥」のメッセージにも似ているような感じもいたします。
家に帰って気づいたのですがアメリカでは今日はSt. Patrick's Dayでした。この祭日の歴史や詳細についてはまったく無知で恥ずかしいのですが、アイリッシュのお祭りでとにかく緑がシンボルカラーであるというのだけは知っておりました。あ～なるほど！だからあのラジオステーションはこの曲をかけたのね！ということがわかって、そのお茶目なセレクションに座布団一枚でもあげたくなったのでした。
