英EY、監督委員会に元大使を起用（economiaより）

EY appoints Peter Westmacott as independent non-executive

英国のEYが、英国の駐トルコ大使や駐米国大使を歴任した人物をindependent non-executive oversight committeeの委員長に起用したという記事。事務所の理事会（ボード）にも参加するそうです。

EY announced on Thursday that Westmacott will sit on the firm's UK independent non-executive oversight committee, a governance body that is responsible for overseeing compliance and public interest matters in relation to EY in the UK. He will also attend the UK board meetings.

Westmacott was previously the British ambassador to Turkey, France and the US. He left Washington in January last year and was then a resident fellow at the Institute of Politics within The Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

日本の監査法人ガバナンスコードでも、「監査法人の経営から独立した立場で経営機能の実効性を監督・評価」する機能を持つべきとされており、大手監査法人では、企業の（元）経営者などを選んでいるようです。先行している英国で、どういう人を選んでいるのか、比較してみるとおもしろいかもしれません。

経営者を選ぶと、事務所のクライアントとの独立性や利益相反の問題も生じるおそれがあると思われるのですが．．．。
