AICPA、トップレベル・ドメイン名‘.cpa’を取得（JofAより）

AICPA set to be awarded ‘.cpa’ internet domain

米国公認会計士協会（AICPA）が、「.cpa」というドメイン名を取得する予定だという記事。インターネットのドメイン名やIPアドレスを管理しているICANNとの間で契約締結の段階だそうです。

The AICPA is in final contract talks with the internet’s global governing body to oversee a new internet domain for CPAs.

The Institute announced Monday that it is in the process of being awarded the .cpa domain and is in the “contract execution phase” with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the international organization that controls the internet’s naming protocols.

これまで、.com、.edu、.orgといった一般的なドメイン名だけでなく、有名企業や団体向けに1,200もの特殊なドメイン名が承認されているそうです。 （「.kpmg」というドメイン名もあります。）

ICANN has approved more than 1,200 specialized domain extensions to support traditional top-level domains such as .com, .edu, and .org. Domains have already been approved for well-known businesses, institutions, and governments such as Amazon (.aws), Google (.app), KPMG (.kpmg), Major League Baseball (.mlb), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (.mit), and the city of New York (.nyc).

AICPAのCEOのコメントによると、AICPAは他の国際的なCPA団体と協力して、「.cpa」ドメインを管理するそうです。そうすることにより、オンラインにおいて、CPAの存在感を高め、プロフェッショナルとしての立場を保護するのを手助けすることができるとのことです。

“By overseeing the .cpa domain in collaboration with other global CPA organizations, the AICPA can help promote CPAs’ visibility and protect their professional standing online,” Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, the president and CEO of the AICPA, said in a news release. “We also want the public to have confidence that someone using a .cpa domain address for email or a website is affiliated with the CPA profession.”

ということで、AICPAが「.cpa」ドメインを独占する（他国のCPAは使えない）のではないようですが、このドメインを使用できる条件は、AICPAが中心となって決めるのかもしれません。

日本の会計士や監査法人がこのドメインを使えるようになる可能性もありそうです。

（例えば、日本の監査法人だと「法人名.or.jp」が多いと思いますが、「or.jp」のかわりに「.cpa」を使えるということでしょうか。）
