● 一気に雪解け！と思いきや
This is the first time I have spent April and the beginning of May in Tromso.
It has been fine and warm, and snow melted fast at the end of April.
I was convinced that we would welcome the midnight sun the same way, with no snow showers.
But it was snowing all the day on the 1st of May.
It seemed to go back to winter!
私が４月から５月にかけてトロムソで過ごすのは、今年が初めてです。
４月末はお天気がよくて暖かく、どんどん雪は解けました。
このまま雪が降ることなく真夜中の太陽を迎える。
私はそう思いこんでいました。
ところが５月１日、
一日中雪は降り、冬に逆戻りしたかのようでした。
● 白夜に映える雪景色
But there is a difference from winter.
It’s still bright after sunset.
Afterglow of the setting sun continues to be reflected up on the snow covered mountains.
There is no wind and it is very calm, not cold, and I feel the air is completely clear.
Bright evenings are getting longer day by day.
しかし、冬とは全く違うことがあります。
それは白夜。
夜太陽が沈んだ後も、その余光が山の雪肌に映え続けるのです。
風もなく寒くもなく穏やで、
空気は澄みきっています。
そして、白夜は日に日に長くなっていくのです。
●この季節特有“eling”
In the morning on the 7th of May,
my husband invited me to go outside, wearing warm clothes.
What did he want to show me?
Where he brought me was the sea.
Oh, I could see an“eling” over the nearest island very clearly.
“eling” means a sudden local shower of snow or rain, with a gust of wind, in Norwegian.
５月7日日曜日の朝、
相方さんが「出かけよう。あったかくするんだよ」と私に言います。
何を私に見せたいのでしょう？
連れて行かれたのは、海。
なんと、近くの島の“eling（エリング）”がはっきりと見えます。
“eling” とは、ノルウエー語で、突風と共に局部に降るみぞれや雪のこと。
The wind is very strong,
the waves are very high and the color of the sea looked greener.
The sharp wind was from the North Pole.
This seems to be unique weather in this season.
風が強く、海の波が高く、海の色もいつもより濃緑。
肌を刺すように冷たい風は北極から。
どうやらこれも、この季節特有の天候のようです。
風と押し合いっこ？宙にとまったままのカモメ
●さあ、完全なる白夜到来！
Yesterday, at last, midnight sun arrived in Tromso.
That means it is bright 24 hours a day!
I heard there was more snow than normal this winter.
I wonder how and when the snow will melt?
I’m looking forward to when the snow disappears..
but I will also miss it.
I did not expect that.
Anyway I have to keep my eyes on the changes of the season.
ついに昨日、トロムソで太陽が一日中地平線の下に沈まなくなりました。
つまり一日２４時間明るくなったわけです。
今年の冬トロムソでは、雪が例年よりも多かったそうです。
この雪、いつ、どうやって解けていくのでしょうか？
雪がなくなるのが
待ち遠しくもあり、淋しくもあります。
これは、思いがけない心境だなあ。
とにかく季節の変化に目が離せません。
