昨日の記事にあった「その時」を、「1984年」や「アニマルファーム」のジョージ・オーウェル George Orwell (1903-1950) の世界から、いくつか。

During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.

Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously and accepting both of them. The Party intellectual knows in which direction his memories must be altered; he therefore knows that he is playing tricks with reality; but by the exercise of doublethink, he also satisfies himself that reality is not violated. The process has to be conscious, or it would be carried out with sufficient precision, but it also has to be unconscious, or it would bring with it a feeling of falsity and hence of guilt.

Newspeak was the official language of Oceania.... If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

Political language - and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists - is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.
