外国の方が日本を離れてしまった影響で
今、通訳としてのお仕事がほとんどありません。。。。。
それでケーキを焼いたりしているのですが
被災地にも、私のようにお菓子を作ることが大好きな人がいると思う。
でも今、それどころではないわけで。。。申し訳ない気持ちもします。。
これを書いている途中でも緊急地震速報で携帯電話から、あの、不気味な警戒音が
響きました。福島県、茨城県で震度５、ここでも、我が家の地震計、リビングルームの
鉢植え植物の葉が揺れています。 地震か？と思うと、うちではこの葉っぱが地震の
バロメーターになっています。
おでかけする気にもなれず...家族はそれぞれ学校、バイト、職場に行っていますが。。。
While I was writing this blog, the uncomfortable sound of the earthquake alarm bell
of my movile phone sounded.
I can not remember how many times I have heard this sound. Nobody likes this situation,
but everybody seems got used to these countless aftershocks.
The plant in my living room is the indicator of earthquake for my family.
Whenever we feel some shaking, we immediately check if the leaves of the plant are shaking.
Now that the hazard level of the Fukusima No.1 nuclear plant crisis is upgraded to seven same as the accident
of Chernobyl,the uncertainty of this ongoing crisis keeps the foreign people out of Japan.
Fewer foreigners means fewer job opprtunities for interpreters like me.
I have much spare time to bake cakes now. I hope the situation will get better before long.
不二家式、いちごのショートケーキ
１８センチ丸型で、このやりかたなら
生クリーム２００ｃｃですんじゃうのでカロリーもオフ、コストも低い。
スポンジを２段にスライスしてシロップをぬり、うすく生クリームをぬり
まるごといちごを８個、外にむけて並べる
まんなかのあいているところに生クリームをしぼる。
シロップをぬったスポンジをかさねる。
表面に生クリームをぬってから
周囲に一周、大きめの星口金でぐるっとクリームをしぼる。
真ん中にもしぼってひとついちごを置く。
周囲に６個、まるごとのいちごを置いて、
いちごといちごの間に生クリームを外にむかってしぼる。
難しいしぼりのテクニックもなし。
これは自分の誕生日用に作りました。
ショートケーキといえば不二家しかなかったころの、なつかしの素朴なケーキになりました。
オホホ、のきのうの失敗談あり。
スポンジを焼いて
シロップを作り、
生クリームに砂糖を加えて泡立てました。
塗る前にクリームの甘さを味見。。。。したところ、
ぎょぎょっまさかの！？
塩だった・・・・・・
前夜、塩入れと砂糖入れを置く位置を間違えた。。。。
同じ形の入れ物に入れてたので今日気がつかず、砂糖と思ってたっぷり入れたのが
塩であった。。。いや、ケーキにぬる前に気付いてよかったよー
そんなバカな間違いがあるんですねえ。。。。しずかちゃんがのびたくんに作ったケーキの
お話みたいです。。。まさかの。。。。
その失敗クリームは捨てて
新しい生クリームで、ちゃんと砂糖と泡立てて作りなおし。

おいしそー！！だったのに

シロップ。。。。。。。先に作ったシロップが砂糖でなくて塩だった。。。。。。。。。
そんな若年性アルツハイマーな誕生日でした。。ちゃんちゃん。
今日、改めてすべてを作りなおしました。
Strawberry shortcake is one of the most popular cakes in Japan.
You might call a scone like sliced biscuit with whipped cream and fruits "shortcake".
In Japan we call sliced sponge cake with whipped cream and fruits a "shortcake".
Actually, scones and bisucuits are not quite familliar to Japanese people.
Yesterday,I baked a sponge cake for my birthday.
I whipped a carton of heavy cream with sugar.
Before I start decorating the cake, I licked a drop of the cream and find out that it was
salt not sugar which I had added to the cream.
Unbelievable. I had never made such a stupid mistake in my whole life......
I needed to made a cake from scratch again.
For those who miss the cherry bloosoms in Jaoan, here you are, Butterfly cookies.
It is amazing that spring surely comes after such a calamity.
They say that the plum is full blossom in Tohoku region.
I hope the victims of the earthquake and Tsunami who are still staying in shelters
feel better to see those beatiful flowers.
In Tokyo, the cherry trees are about to blossom.
I was in Ueno area with my husband on Sunday.
Because of the "Jishuku"forbear mood among all Japanese,
fewer people were having picnic under the cherry trees.
日曜日、上野へでかけました。桜は５分咲きくらい・・
自粛ムードのため、宴会をしているグループは少なめのようでした。
デパートも早く閉店するし、店内も照明が控えめ。
でも、そう不自由は感じない。。
昔はそうだったもの。デパートも平日に休みがあったし、
コンビ二も７時から１１時だったもの。それでもいいような気もします。。
子どものころはコンビ二なんてなかったし。
家にエアコンなかったし・・
エアコンつけても一家に一台で、みんな同じ部屋で涼んでたし・・・
そんな暮らし方にもどったらいいような気もします・・・・

Baby Shower Cookies
I was planning to have a Decorative Cookies class last week for American ladies living in Tokyo.
Unfortunately, after the earthquake, some of them left Japan temporaily,
so I needed to cancel my class.
Although we still feel some aftershocks, according to CNN there have been over seven hundred aftershocks
including quite small quakes,I hope to see those ladies in coming fall when I have the cookie class with
the theme of Halloween and Christmas.
Yesterday, I had a cookie class in Yokohama.
The theme was "Baby Shower".Every perticipant enjoyed the class.
昨日は横浜で「ニューヨークスタイルのアシングクッキー」クラスをしました。
余震の影響でキャンセルする人が相次ぎ、残念半分の方たちしか参加できませんでしたが。
I was impressed by an artcle which was in today's newspaper.
It is a story about a girl and Origami.
A free-toy counter was set up for children in a shelter in Tohoku.
A girl came to the counter and asked some Origami papers.
The volunteer gave her a pack of Origami.
Then, the girl opened the pack and took out about 10, the halh of the origami papers and
returned the pack to the volunteer,saying "These papers are for other children."
When the volunteer told her that they had prenty of Origammi and she could keep a whole pack
of origami,she smiled and skipped away with the pack.
I was happy to read this story, and wondered if I could do the same thing as the little girl did.
Could I share a toy or food in this devastating situation?
Actually, simillar stories are occuering in many shelters.
I suppose that the girl copied the good munner of her parents.
If a parent push other people in a line to get food or cloth in the shelter,
I am sure that the child of the person would do the same way.
I am proud of those considerate people in Tohoku and hope they get over this catastrophe.

Cookies are not just for eating, sometimes they could be message cards.
I baked and decorated these "Thank you "cookies for the teachers at my child's cram school.
The entrance exams for high schools in Japan are notorious.
The students need to study hard to pass the entrance examination for a high school.
Many students go to cram school called "Jyuku"starting from, sometimes at the moment they enter the
junior high school which is compulsory.
When I opened the door of the cram school, teachers were pretty busy calling to every student
to tell them that all classes were cancelled because of the rolling blackout planned in the evening.
The lights in the office were half out due to the nationwide campaign of saving energy.
I was quite impressed the fact that every Japanese is very cooporative for saving the power.
When we think about the people who still do not have power neither gas nor water in Tohoku region,
saving the power by tunning off some lights is not hard at all.
相変わらず、今日もガソリンスタンドの前には２０から３０台の車の列ができていました。
支援物資が倉庫に山積みになっているのに、ガソリンが不足して避難所に届けられないというのは
なんとかならないのかなあ。。
ヘリコプターで上空から物資を落とすのはどうなんでしょう。
その許可を簡略化するという新聞記事をきのう読んだけど、もっと早くそうできなかったのか？
夫の友達のブラジル人が、全部捨てておれんとこに家族で１ヶ月くらい来い！（ブラジルのコーヒー農園主）
とメールをくれました。ありがたいなあ・・・

As I work as a voluntier English interpreter at the city office,
I assist a lot of foreigners who come to the city office.
This couple of days, quite a lot of foreigners come to the office to
cancel their National Health Insurance because they are leaving Japan.
It is quite understandable that foreign nationalities would like to
go back to their coutry.
After the Great Tohoku earthquake and Tunami, tons of aftershocks, even worse, we have crisis
over the Fukushima NO.1 nuclear plant.
A Peruvian couple came to the city office to cancel their heath insurance policy.
The husband said that his wife was pregunant and pretty scared about the leaking radiation.
Although the government is telling us that the radiation lavels in Tokyo has not reached
the level which affects human health, many people are scared.
Some people in Tokyo rushed to grocery stores to bulk-buy food such us rice, water, canned food
and instant noodles.I was suprised to see the empty shelves on the TV news show.
Today, when I went to the nearest supermarket the first thing I checked was the milk shelf.
I was releafed to see almost full of milk cartons.
When I got closer, a note saying that "Only one milk carton per person"was posted.
That was why the shelf was almost full,otherwise the panicked people might have bought
unneccesary amount of milk until the shelf got empty.
I think it is really good to see the occupied shelf instead of empty one.
We Japanese are considerate people. When we think about the people in Tohoku who are suffering from the
earthquake and Tunami, now homeless and staying in shelters without heating,
why not avoid the unneccesarry bulk-buy?

テレビのニュースではからっぽの棚を写していたので。
でも、昨日の政府の会見で東京などでの買いだめは控えるように、
スーパー側も、売り切れとだけ書かないで、どうしてないのか、いつごろはいるのか、
詳しく書くように、との話があったおかげでか、
今日のスーパーでも、納豆の棚が空だったけど、ちゃんと「納豆製造工場が被災したため、
しばらく入荷できません」とかなにか、きちんと説明が書いてありました。
役所では、近日中に日本を出国するという外国人の方がいつもよりも数倍多く来ています。
そりゃそうだよねえ、異国の地で慣れない地震にみまわれ、余震もハンパなく来るし、
その上放射線が空気中に飛散すると聞いた日にゃあ国に帰りたくなるよねえ。。。。
９．１１のときニューヨークにいたからそういう気持ちわかります。
