TWICE sells over 1 million copies in 8 months since debuting in Japan

Girl group TWICE has successfully won three consecutive platinum discs in Japan.

Recently, according to Oricon, TWICE's "Candy Pop," released on the 7th of last month, ranked second to Arashi, who had about 420,000 points, with a total of 324,035 points.

"Candy Pop" was also recently certified as a platinum disc by the Recording Industry Association of Japan, which is awarded to albums that sell more than 250,000 copies.

As a result, TWICE has set a record of three consecutive platinum discs, following their Japanese debut best album "#TWICE" in June last year and their Japanese debut single "One More Time" in October.

Not only that, TWICE has also set a record of shipping over 1 million copies in 8 months since their Japanese debut.

On the 27th of last month, TWICE became the first new artist to win five awards, including the New Artist of the Year award, at the 32nd Japan Gold Disc Awards, which were announced on the Japan Gold Disc Awards website.

TWICE's popularity is truly incredible. I wonder how popular they would be if they were to appear on TV as freelancers. I think the living rooms of homes across the country will be swayed by TWICE's popularity, just like KARA was back then.

When that happens, TWICE, which has a Japanese member, will likely show its strengths. However, the nine members seem a bit heavy. There's no point in talking about something that hasn't been decided yet, but what about a unit of four or five people?

In 2010, Japan was the starting point for the overall trend of K-POP, including the world. This time, it seems that the trend is slightly different.

I think the timing of the current K-pop boom was perfect, with BTS aiming for America and TWICE, who entered Japan while keeping an eye on BTS's success, reviving the momentum and expansion of K-pop.

The whole world is now energized by K-pop music.

In other words, even if BTS had not arrived in America and TWICE had not entered Japan, the boom would not have been as big as it is.

In the 2010 boom, there were only two girl groups, KARA and Girls' Generation, who were able to succeed.

However, it seems that the current K-pop boom will create an environment where one or two girl groups, centered around TWICE, can always be active in Japan.

The same thing can be said about America. Right now, BTS is the only group that dominates, but it seems that we will soon see a trend of boy groups taking turns to tour.

TWICE may continue to travel frequently between Japan and Korea.
