NYで展示させていただいたときに大変お世話になった、NY在住アーティスト小林園実さんの展示会を開催します。
設営完了しました！すごくかっこいい展示になりました。たくさんの人に見ていただきたいです！
小林園実 Sonomi Kobayashi
埼玉県出身、1993年渡米。 Art Students League of New Yorkにて、絵画、彫刻、版画を学ぶ。現在はニューヨーク市ブルックリンにあるアトリエにて制作活動中。２０１３年にはWill Barnet Grantの版画部門で奨学金を授与される。他にも奨学金を受けてASL Vytlacil Campus（ニューヨーク）や、Vermont Studio Center（バーモント）、Ste Colombe (フランス)にてアーティストレジデンシー参加。ニューヨーク、東京、ライプチッヒ（ドイツ）、コペンハーゲン（デンマーク）、フランスなど、ニューヨークとヨーロッパ各地を中心に個展やグループ展参加多数。今回は初の日本での個展となる。
Sonomi Kobayashi is a New York based artist, was born and grew up in Japan. She received studio certificate in painting from The Art Students League of New York, and also studied sculpture and printmaking there. She now works out of her studio in Bushwick Brooklyn, NY and exhibits frequently in the United States, Japan, and Europe. She received Will Barnet Grant in Printmaking in 2013, and also earned scholarships and has done residencies at Vermont Studio Center, VT, Vytlacil Campus, Sparkill, NY, and Cat'Art Contemporary Art Centre, Sainte Colombe, France.
Artist Statement
私はひとつひとつの作品について、特別に何かを表現しようと考えて制作していません。個人的には、私にとって制作すること自体が瞑想であり、普段から思考をめぐらしている地球や自然、宇宙について思念しつつ、描きながら作品と対話しながら、作品が常に変化して行くことを楽しみ（または苦しみ）ながら制作しています。
今回の個展では、去年から今年にかけて制作した油彩画と版画を展示しています。特に油絵は最近行ったアリゾナの大自然や砂漠の思い出、そしてそこで感じた地球と宇宙を想い制作しました。
作品に球形のモチーフをよく使用しますが、これは私にとって、球円は自然のシンボルであり、通常、自然に作られる物は球状に形成または成長するからであり、円は循環や再生などを意味しています。又、”Wave”（波）は波動、波長、水波などを含める全てのWaveを意味します。
In my work, I strive to express the relationships between humanity, nature, earth and the universe. More personally, creating artwork for me is meditation and a reflection of myself in a moment in time. Viewers often find universality in my paintings, which depict shapes and symbols found in nature. The use of round and circular forms represent the cycle of life and their common occurrence in the universe.
My work is symbolic and abstract. I use different mediums such as oil paint, ink, watercolor, and printmaking such as lithography and etching.
Most of my oil paintings are painted in thin layers. Mixing the paint with oil and mineral spirits allows me to create a multitude of layers representing metaphorical links to the past, present and future.
My work on paper is painted with Japanese pigment and traditional Japanese writing ink called Sumi ink, as well as collage using my left over paintings, photos, and painted and dyed papers. By dropping and blowing the ink very carefully, I create the expressive beauty of life full of accidents and chances.
In my printmaking work, I mix traditional techniques of stone lithography with mostly touché, and copper plate with etching, aquatint, sugar lift, and Chine-collé.
The varied colors, fine lines and organic shapes in my art reflect my sensibilities and emotions. These feelings are often uncertain and intimidated by the challenges the future may bring, but ultimately inspired and hopeful.
