お父さん、お母さんへの感謝

私の父は私が歌手になることを反対した
母は反対はしないが、別に応援はしなかった

My father did not want me to become a singer.
My mother did not say anything about that,
but she did not support my music life either.

去年
「子供の頃から、ちゃんと歌を習わせてあげたら
　よかったかな～と、思う時がある」と
母は、ぽつりと言ってくれた

Last year, my mother said to me
when we were preparing for dinner together.
"I sometimes regret
I did not let you take musical lessons
when you were little."


でも、２人とも
「お前には無理だ」
「お前には才能がない」等の言葉を
言った事は一度もない
音楽は趣味でやるなら、
とても良い趣味だと言っていた

However, they never said anything like
"No, you can't become a singer." or
"Do you think you're talented enough?"
to me like many other parents do.

They used to say that music is wonderful.
They said it is a great hobby.



それどころか、私が
ビリー・ホリデー、ナンシー・ウィルソン、
シャーリー・バッシー、サラ・ヴォーンなど
色んなジャズシンガーの歌真似をしたら
「お前は日本一、うまい」と拍手すらしてくれた

My father even gave me generous praise
whenever I mimicked some of our common favorite jazz singers
such as Billie Holiday, Nancy Wilson, Shirley Bassey,
Sarah Vaughan and some more.

He always told me,
"I have never listened to any other Japanese
who could sing like you do. You are the best in Japan."



両親は、１度も私の歌そのものを馬鹿にしたり
その歌心の芽そのものを摘み取ろうと
したことはなかった

They never tried to nip my passion for music in the bud.
They never denied me my possibilities for the future.



今思うと
私が、なんとか歌手になれて
今では教えられる人になれたのは
そういう親の人間性のおかげだと感謝している


I made my biggest dream come true
and became a pro singer when I was 18 through my own effort
and now I am a teacher at music college.
How I am thankful for them.

One of the reasons why I could maintain my passion
for making my dream come true was my parents' great love for me
and their humanities. It is true even though they were not
aware of that.


私は自分の未来の可能性が信じられる
それは、お父さんとお母さんが
私自身の可能性を否定しなかったからだ

I believe in my future, because
my parents have never denied me my possibilities.


すばらしい親だと思う

They are great parents.

I am fighting back my tears for joy now.
