One of the best-selling music albums in the world last year (2019) was the first Japanese artist to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the popular idol group "Arashi".
The International Federation of Recording Industry, which includes record companies from around the world, gives the “Global Album” to the world's best-selling albums based on CD sales and downloads on the Internet.
The best album “5 × 20 All the BEST !! 1999-2019” commemorating the 20th anniversary of Arashi's debut was selected for this award. The album was released last June and reached number one with 3.3 million copies by December.
According to the Japan Records Association, this is the first time a Japanese artist has been selected for this award.
2nd place is a popular American singer Taylor Swift and 3rd place is a work of Korean idol group BTS.
