優先席 Priority Seat

先日来、尖閣諸島を巡って中国と日本の関係が悪化していますが、実は14日から18日まで台湾に行ってきました

台北の市内を30年ぶりに観光してきましたが、台湾では今回の騒動はあまり大きな話題にはなっていないようです

それにしても30年前の台北の印象とは全く異なり、近代的な大都市に変身していました

人々の顔つきは明るく、とくに若者のファッションやマナーは間違いなく日本よりも一歩進んでいる印象を受けました

最近私は東京の通勤電車の中で、苦々しく思っていることがあります

JRの優先席にお年寄りや妊婦を押しのけて座り、そこで寝たふりを決め込む若者をよく見かけます

台湾の地下鉄に乗ってみましたが、優先席（現地では博愛座）が空いていても、そこに座る若者はまったくいません

そればかりでなく、普通座席に座っていてもお年寄りを見かけると必ず席を譲るのです

この姿を見て、ひどく恥ずかしい思いと、彼らの行動に清々しい感動を覚えました

このことを現地の方に聞いてみると、小さい頃から親が子供にしっかりと躾をして、お年寄りを労らないとか、優先席に座ることがとても恥ずかしいこととされているそうです

しばらくご無沙汰している間に、台湾は素晴らしい国になっていました

 

 

In recent days, the relationship between Japan and China had become worse, but actually I visited Taiwan last week 14^th to 18^th.

I walked around Taipei city and felt that the conflict between Japan and China seemed not so big topic in Taiwan.

Anyway Taipei city had developed into a modern big city.

Most of the people walking in the town seemed full of life and especially the fashion and manner of young people might be better than Japanese.

Recently I’ve been disgusted with some young Japanese people who push the elderly person or pregnant lady aside to sit on the priority seat and pretend sleeping in the commuting train.

I saw a scene in the subway in Taipei city even if the priority seat (they say charity seat) is vacant no young people sit there.

Furthermore when they see the elderly person they will give a seat at a time.

Watching this scene I felt shame and impressed for their practice.

I had informed about this from a local person that most of the children in Taiwan are instilled respect for the aged person and always give seat to them.

Taiwan had grown up to the country that we should respect since I visited long time ago.
