The crisis

At 10:00 last night the electricity service to the hospital had broken down and the emergency generator had started as usual.
However the break down had continued so long time and 8:00 in the morning the fuel of the generator was running out and electricity service in the hospital was completely stopped.
Once the electricity breaks down in the hospital, not only the light but also all electric instruments for example the suction pump and medical compressed air doesn’t work at all.
When the electricity service stopped the Caesarian section procedure had been undergoing in the operation theatre but fortunately it was not so much bleeding and finished successfully.
There are 30 cases of the new delivery a day in average in this hospital and about 15% of them are done by the Caesarian section procedure.
It means at least 3 cases a day.
The emergency generator in the hospital is designed for the 10hours continuous back up but if the break down continues more it is necessary to refill the fuel.
I arrived to the hospital at 8:15 and understood the situation.
The electrician contacted with the fuel provider and when we were waiting for the fuel arriving the electricity service restored and the critical situation was avoided.
However it was the very serious incident.
