About SORA – The Animal Peace Project

The world has been changed in many ways at the expense of humans selfishly trying to make their own lives more comfortable. There are so many animals that have been victimized due to politics or the economic activities of human beings. In mammals along, currently around 70 species are endangered, or already extinct. Human self-interest is the cause of these problems.

In the media, animal abuse is common and often reported on. Humans abuse the power they have over animals, animals that can’t even voice their complaints at the treatment they receive. The poor animals, they don’t even know why they are going to be killed. Due to mankind’s enormous ego, this injustice persists in the world. We at SORA think that this situation for animals must not continue, at any cost! We must do what we can to make this right.

“We must do what we can, anyways we can.”

Help us find a way to help humans and animals coexist happily.

This is The Animal Peace Project.

The incorporated association SORA was established as Limited Liability Intermediary Corporation in 2006. "A Limited Liability Intermediary corporation" operates just like NPO and it is a not for profit organization. The difference is that NPO requires 11 members on its board and it costs us a few hundreds more to register and requires more administrative work. To focus on our true mission, We've chosen“Limited Liability Intermediary Corporation”.

However in December 2008, there was a change in the law and category of“Limited Liability Intermediary Corporation” was to be terminated. We had to choose either a “General Incorporation Foundation” or a “General Incorporated Association”.

The representative director Rie Kanno had chosen the name SORA as a name of association.
SORA means sky in Japanese. Sky exists equally for any creature on the earth. Also, I have always liked to look up the sky myself.

Main activities:
Protect and find foster care for companion animals, non-indigenous creatures, injured wild animals, birds and insects.
Call out for law amendment on Animal control laws, Invasive Alien Species Act, Wildlife Protection and Hunting Law and any regulations that possibly impact the well being of animals.

Funding for those activities is mostly at the representative director's expense.
Your support is greatly appreciated to cover the costs of:
Establishing shelters
Medical attentions
Rescue animals including non-indigenous species and such.

Representative Director Rie Kanno's Profile

Female.Since I was a child, I took care of a stray kitten behind my parents' back and looked for a foster family at school. It is quite natural for me to give a hand to any animal who needs help. Maybe I'm simply an animal nut. I hate when human selfishness causes suffering for animals. I don't like people who make money by exploiting animals (except zoo caretakers or workers in animal rights groups who shelter animals).

- About my family –
12 cats, 4 dogs, a tortoise, 4 raccoons and lots of other cats rescued in this area.
I'm married with a son.

- Hobbies –
I am a part time professional photographer. I take photos of animals, the sky and creatures in nature. I sometimes lend my photos out free (sometimes not free) to government, television stations or magazines. I enjoy going overseas. My English is worse than a child in kindergarten but I can and will go anywhere by myself to achieve my goals. I don’t like to stay home alone but I can easily travel alone anywhere I want in nature and I sometimes dive into the sea.
