例示する場合
英文契約書において例示する場合にも、法律英語特有の表現を用いることがある。
・including but not limited to, including without limitation
これらは、「～を含むが、それらには限られない」という場合に使用する。
“The cook will be directly responsible for preparing all meals and other related duties including but not limited to, shopping for food and washing the dishes.”
“The cook will be directly responsible for preparing all meals and other related duties including without limitation, shopping for food and washing the dishes.”
前記の英文では、コックの業務として、食物の買入れ（shopping for food）や皿洗い（washing the dishes）が具体的に列挙されているが、これらは食事を用意する仕事に関連するもの（preparing all meals and other related duties）の例示であって、それらに限るものではないという意味になる。なお、英文契約では、”others”や”etc.”は使用しないのが通例である。
“including but not limited to”や”including without limitation”を用いた例示は、委託者の側からすれば、業務範囲が広がるため、一般的に有利な契約内容となる。しかし、それも立場によって両刃の剣である。受託者のコックの側に立つと、仮に報酬が同一であるならば、業務範囲は限定されたほうがよい。その場合には、”limited to”、”only in the case”〔～に限る〕と表現すべきであろう。
また、例示の用法として、次のように”such as”が使われる場合もある。
“The cook will be directly responsible for preparing all meals and other related duties, such as shopping for food and washing the dishes.”
このように”such as”を用いると、例示されたもの以外（たとえば、”sweeping the kitchen floor”）は含まれない可能性があるため、注意が必要である。
