今年もブルースフェスを見るために日本からお友達がやってきた。
ブルースギタリスト＆シンガーのナコミさんと、ドラマーのふみちゃん。
去年はブルースフェスが終わったらすぐに帰ってしまったけど、今年はそのあとも1週間滞在。
そこで、後半3日は我が家に泊まってもらって、近所で行われるブルースフェスティバルに一緒に行くことにした。
二人がやってきたその晩。
うちでだらだらとBBQをしつつ飲んだくれていたら、ご近所のシンガー仲間から「歌いに来ない？」とお誘いの電話があったので近所のBarにみんなで冷やかしに行った。
そこでさっそくなこみさんとふみちゃんが飛び入り。
シルバーおっさんたちが大喜びしたのは言うまでもない。
なにしろ日本人の女の子がブルースをやったもんだから、やんやの喝采。
ふみちゃんのベール（昨年12月に結婚）にも注目が集まり、「おめでとう」と声をかけられた。
シカゴのブルースシーンにずっと飛び入りしていたふたりにとっては、こういう郊外の「シニアのJazz文化」は新鮮だった様子。
実はこれこそ日常のアメリカだったりするのだ。
翌朝はゆっくり寝坊して、ブランチしたあと、
Fermi Labのバイソンを観に行って
ブルースフェスティバル第1日目へ。

MORELAND & ARBUCKLE: 3 P.M.
3人だけなのに、リズムのタイトなかっこいいバンドだったなー。カンザスシティから運転してきて寝不足だったそうで、このあたまたすぐ車で戻っていった。タフな人たち。

OTIS TAYLOR BAND: 5 P.M.
The blues are all about storytelling, and there ain’t no storyteller like Otis Taylor. Born in Chicago and raised in Colorado, this guy has seen it all. When he first got his hands on a banjo as a kid, he learned to musicalize both the good and the bad, and the rest is history. Since then, Otis Taylor has mastered the guitar, mandolin, harmonica and, of course, banjo, crafting his own blues meets psychedelic rock, drenched in country style that The New Yorker dubbed “Velvet Underground Railroad.” Add those musical chops to powerful lyrics, soulful energy and commitment to keeping the blues kickin’, and you’ve got a legend-in-the-making. There’s a reason Guitar Player Magazine calls Otis Taylor “arguably the most relevant blues artist of our time.” And here’s something cool: Standing Bear, from the blues-rock band Indigenous, is joining Otis Taylor on stage for his mind-blowing set.
MAVIS STAPLES: 7 P.M.
今回のフェスティバルは彼女を見るためにほとんどの人たちが集まったと言っていいだろう。
最初の3曲で心配していた雨が激しくなり、雷も伴ったためいったん中断し、次のバンドに切り替えて再び出番を待つことになったのだが・・・
TROMBONE SHORTY & ORLEANS AVENUE: 9 P.M.
あー、これは本当に趣味がドンピシャの久々の心ふるえるバンドだったのに、激しい雨と雷のため結局フェスティバルは中止に。
蜘蛛の子を散らすように、みんなあっという間に帰って行った。
なんだか消化不良のママ家路についた私たちであった。
Trombone Shorty grew up in New Orleans’ Tremé neighborhood, and played himself on the HBO series “Treme,” set on the streets of his youth. Shorty has been a bandleader since the age of six, toured the world at the age of 18 as part of Lenny Kravtiz’ horn section and has served as an ambassador for his city since at least 2006, the year he played the SuperDome post-Katrina re-opening with U2 and Green Day.
