Only Jesus Makes Us New

イエスに従うことの素晴らしさは、十字架上でのイエスの救いの犠牲に始まり、そこで終わるわけではないということです。すでに読んだように、私たちを神と和解させる行為は、もう一つの信じられないほど力強い霊的現象と絡み合っています。それは、私たちが新しい創造物とされることです。古いものは消え去り、新しい人生が始まったのです！私たちは古い傷、恥、罪悪感、後悔を手放すことができます。私たちはもはやあの人ではありません。和解は変容と密接に関係しているのです。

The beauty of following Jesus is that it doesn’t begin and end with his saving sacrifice on the cross. As we have read, the act of reconciling us back to God is intertwined with another incredibly powerful spiritual phenomenon: we are made into a new creation. The old has gone and a new life has begun! We can let go of old hurts, shame, guilt and regret. We are no longer that person anymore. Reconciliation goes hand in hand with transformation.

この変化は私たちをイエスに似た者へと導き、イエスの姿へと形作られていきます。しかし、これは生涯続くプロセスです。時には、心の中に変わらない部分、つまり聖霊の刷新の力に抵抗する頑固な部分を見つけると、落胆してしまうかもしれません。しかし、落胆しないでください。私たちがイエスを求め続け、聖霊の働きに身を委ねるなら、主が私たちの中で始められたことは必ず完成されるでしょう。

This change makes us more like Jesus, shaping and moulding us into his image. But it’s a process that continues throughout our lives. Sometimes it can be discouraging when we see areas of our heart that aren’t changing - stubborn areas of resistance to the renewing power of the Spirit. But do not be discouraged. If we continue to seek Jesus and yield ourselves to the work of the Spirit, what He has started in us will be brought to completion.
