マタイによる福音書 8:1-34 新共同訳 [1] イエスが山から降りられると、大勢の群衆が従った。[2] 重い皮膚病にかかっている人が近寄ってきて、み前にひざまずき、「主よ、もし御心ならば、私を清くすることがおできになります」と言った。[3] イエスは手を伸ばしてその人に触れられた。「喜んで。清くなれ」と言われた。すると、彼はたちまち重い皮膚病から清くなった。[4] そこでイエスは言われた。「だれにも言わないように気をつけなさい。ただ、行って祭司に体を見せ、モーセが命じた供え物をささげなさい。それが人々への証しとなる。」[5] イエスがカペナウムに入られると、百人隊長が助けを求めてイエスのもとに来た。[6] 彼は言った。「主よ。私のしもべが家で中風を患い、ひどく苦しんでいます。」[7] イエスは彼に言われた。「わたしが行って、彼を癒しましょうか。」 [8] 百人隊長は答えた。「主よ、あなたを私の屋根の下にお入れする資格は、私にはありません。ただ、お言葉をください。そうすれば、しもべは癒されます。[9] 私自身も権威の下にある者であり、私の下に兵士たちがいます。私がこの者に『行け』と言えば行き、あの者に『来い』と言えば来ます。私がしもべに『これをしなさい』と言えば、そのとおりにします。」[10] イエスはこれを聞いて非常に驚き、従っていた人々に言われた。「よく聞きなさい。イスラエルのうちに、これほどの信仰の厚い者を見たことはありません。[11] よく聞きなさい。多くの人が東から西から来て、天の御国でアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブと共に宴席に着きます。[12] しかし、御国の民は外の暗闇に追い出され、そこで泣き叫び、歯ぎしりするでしょう。」 [13] そのとき、イエスは百人隊長に言われた。「行きなさい。あなたの信じたとおりになりますように。」すると、そのしもべはたちまち癒された。[14] イエスがペテロの家に入ると、ペテロのしゅうとめが熱を出して床に伏しているのをごらんになった。[15] イエスが彼女の手に触れると、熱はひき、彼女は起き上がってイエスの給仕を始めた。[16] 夕方になると、悪霊に取りつかれた多くの人々がイエスのもとに連れてこられた。イエスは言葉をもって悪霊を追い出し、すべての病人を癒された。[17] これは、預言者イザヤを通して言われていたことが成就するためであった。「彼はわたしたちの病を負い、わたしたちの病を負われた。」[18] イエスは、群衆が自分を取り囲んでいるのを見て、向こう岸へ渡るようにと命じられた。[19] すると、ある律法学者がイエスのもとに来て言った。「先生、あなたがおいでになる所ならどこへでも従ってまいります。」 [20] イエスは答えて言われた。「狐には穴があり、鳥には巣がある。しかし、人の子にはまくらする所がない。」 [21] 別の弟子がイエスに言った。「主よ、まず、父を葬りに行かせてください。」 [22] しかし、イエスは言われた。「わたしについて来なさい。死人に自分の死人を葬らせなさい。」 [23] それから、イエスは舟に乗り、弟子たちも従った。 [24] すると突然、湖面に激しい暴風が起こり、波が舟の上を襲った。しかし、イエスは眠っておられた。 [25] 弟子たちはイエスを起こして言った。「主よ、お助けください。おぼれてしまいます。」 [26] イエスは言われた。「信仰の薄い者よ、なぜそんなに恐れるのですか。」 すると、イエスは起き上がって風と波をしかられると、波はすっかり静まった。 [27] 人々は驚いて言った。「この人は、いったい何なのでしょう。風や波さえも従うとは。」 [28] イエスが向こう岸のガダラ人の地方に着くと、悪霊に取りつかれた二人の人が墓場から出て来てイエスに出会った。彼らは非常に激しく、誰もそこを通ることができなかった。[29] 彼らは叫んだ。「神の子よ、私たちに何をするのですか。定められた時よりも前に、私たちを苦しめるために来たのですか。」[30] 彼らから少し離れたところで、豚の大群が草を食んでいた。[31] 悪霊たちはイエスに願った。「もし私たちを追い出すなら、豚の群れの中に入れてください。」[32] イエスは彼らに言われた。「行け。」そこで彼らは出て行って豚の中に入った。すると、豚の群れはみな岸を駆け下りて湖に落ち、水の中で死んでしまった。[33] 豚の番人たちは逃げ出し、町へ行き、悪霊に取りつかれた人たちに起こったことなど、この出来事をすべて報告した。[34] そこで、町中の人がイエスに会いに出て行った。そして、イエスを見ると、この地方から立ち去ってくれるようにと懇願した。 https://bible.com/bible/111/mat.8.1-34.NIV

Matthew 8:1-34 NIV

[1] When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. [2] A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” [3] Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. [4] Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” [5] When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. [6] “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” [7] Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” [8] The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. [9] For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” [10] When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. [11] I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. [12] But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” [13] Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment. [14] When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. [15] He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. [16] When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. [17] This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” [18] When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. [19] Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” [20] Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” [21] Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” [22] But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” [23] Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. [24] Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. [25] The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” [26] He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. [27] The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” [28] When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. [29] “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” [30] Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. [31] The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.” [32] He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. [33] Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. [34] Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

この章は、偉大な信仰を示す二人の男性の物語から始まります。彼らはイエスの力を深く理解しており、イエスがただ話すだけで誰でも癒すことができると知っています。

The chapter begins with the story of two men showing great faith. These men understand the power of Jesus so deeply that they know he can heal anyone just by speaking.

百人隊長はローマ軍の司令官でした。イスラエルはローマ王国の一部として占領されていたため、彼らはイスラエル全土に配置されていました。この百人隊長はユダヤ人の血筋ではありませんでした。イエスは、部外者が自分の民よりもイエスに深い信仰を抱いているということを指摘しておられたのです。

Centurions were Roman army commanders. They were posted throughout Israel because it had been taken over as part of the kingdom of Rome. This Centurion was not of Jewish background. Jesus was making the point that an outsider had more faith in him than his own people.

イエスが行う数々の驚くべき奇跡のために、人々がイエスのもとに集まるのは当然のことです。人々がイエスのそばにいたいと懇願するのも当然です。イエスは、ご自分と一緒に行きたいと願う人々に対して厳しいように聞こえるかもしれませんが、彼らの心を知っておられます。彼らの動機が正しくないこともご存知です。彼らはイエスの力と人気をその瞬間に見ています。しかし、イエスに従うことの代償が長期的にどれほど大きいかは、彼らには見えていません。

Unsurprisingly, people flock to Jesus because of all the amazing miracles he performs. It's no surprise people beg to be near him. Jesus' response to those who ask to go with him may seem harsh, but he knows their hearts; he knows their motives are not right. They see his power and his popularity in the moment. What they don't see is the full, long-term cost of following Jesus.

ある男性が、父親を埋葬した後、イエスに従いたいと言っているのが分かります。ここで重要なのは、彼の父親はまだ亡くなっていないということです。これは、父親が亡くなるまで家にいたいという意味です。何年もかかるかもしれません。つまり、彼は都合がつくまではイエスに従いたくないのです。

We see one man in particular say he wants to follow Jesus after he buries his father. It's important to understand his father is not dead at this point. This is a way of saying he wants to stay home until his father passes away. It could've been years. Essentially, he doesn't want to follow Jesus until it becomes more convenient.

「悪魔にとりつかれた」人々についての物語は奇妙に思えるかもしれないが、聖書は、善悪両方の目に見えない霊が存在することを明確に述べている。

The stories about "demon-possessed" people may seem curious, but the Bible is clear that there are unseen spirits, both good and bad.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

イエスは私たちに従うように求めておられます。しかし、イエスに従うことは他の追求の二の次であってはなりません。それは最優先事項です。イエスは私たちの人生において、家族、配偶者、そして子供たちよりも優先されるべきであり、またそうあるべきです。イエスにそれ以下のものを捧げることは、イエスが神であり、私たちがその創造物であることを忘れることです。

Jesus asks us to follow him. However, following him cannot be secondary to other pursuits; it's primary. Jesus demands and deserves to be first in our lives -- before family, before spouses, and before children. To give him anything less is to forget that he is God and that we are his creation.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

あなたの人生で何が最優先ですか？家族、友人、仕事、外出？イエス様はあなたの人生の中でどのように位置づけられていますか？スケジュールにイエス様を無理やり押し込んでいますか？都合の良い機会を待っていますか？もしそうなら、それは決して訪れません。人生は常にあなたに要求や命令を投げかけます。イエス様を最優先にすることは、私たちが毎日しなければならない選択です。自分の計画ではなく、神の計画に従って人生を優先できるよう、神に祈り、助けを求めましょう。

What comes first in your life? Family, friends, career, going out? Where does Jesus fit into your life? Do you squeeze him into your schedule? Do you look for that convenient window of opportunity? If so, it will never come. Life will always throw demands and commands at you. Making Jesus first is simply a choice we have to make every day. Spend time in prayer asking God to help you prioritize your life according to his plans, not yours.
