Nirvana, Amen, Kami: The Useless Use

2025-04-20 06:01:56 | The Jade Tablet

◎Jade Tablets -11-3

◎Atman -3

◎The Relationship Between the Sixth Body Atman and the Seventh Body Nirvana -2

◎The Part of Meditation Without Utility -2

◎The Side Whose True Nature is Unknown is More Important

The relationship between the sixth body, Atman, and the seventh body, Nirvana, is often not explained, but only Osho Bhagwan and D. T. Suzuki offer slight explanations.

One of D. T. Suzuki's explanations is as follows:

"The Sanskrit word Nirvana, signifying the culmination of infinite life and complete liberation, would likely have been more accurately pronounced 'Nirvana' in Atlantis.

'Ni' in Nirvana represents nothingness, and 'vana' represents existence. This was a true mantra (power of words) with the same meaning as Amen.

Nothingness Existence (Taoism, Zen Buddhism)
 Ni Vana (Mainly India/Uyghur)
 Men A (Mainly Ancient Egypt/Atlantis)
 Men Ah (Christianity)
 Mu Ohm (Sanskrit Mantra Ohm)
 Un A (Shingon Esoteric Buddhism)
 Ka Mi (Ancient Japanese Shinto)"

(Quoted from the unpublished fragment "The Legend of Superman Dantes (or Dantis)" by D. T. Suzuki)

※Uyghur: D. T. Suzuki mentions the existence of a world empire called Uyghur in ancient times.

Reading this symmetry table as simply bisecting the sounds Amen, Ohm, and Kami leads to no progress. Or, if one juxtaposes nothingness and existence, one might think they are a pair, but nothing happens that way.

The major goal in the practice scenes of various religious sects is to abandon oneself and reach the divine or Buddha. However, explanations about the divine or Buddha often pertain to the right side of this symmetry table, while the left side is something whose true nature is unknown. Therefore, while it is mentioned, the explanations often feel vague and noncommittal.

In this symmetry table, the side of Nirvana/nothingness is placed on the left, indicating that Nirvana is superior to existence/Atman, even though the left side is inexplicable and its name is unknown... That is the critical point. Isn't it being shown to the unenlightened that one must not dismiss the left side just because it is incomprehensible?
