昨日バラが開花した話をしましたが、今年は残念なことがありました。
以前にもどこかで触れましたが、毎年元気に咲いていた白バラが枯れてしまいました。いつもなら、古い幹から青々とした新しい枝を伸ばしているのに、今年は新年ごろに切り詰めた古い枝木のままです。他のバラが新しい枝に葉を繁らせ、つぼみをいくつも育んでいるのに、白バラだけが枯れた風情で、生命の息吹から取り残されている感じです。もう数年間（おそらく７，８年間）毎年大輪の花をつけていたのに、なぜか今年はこんなことになってしまいました。まるで、働き盛りの壮年男性が突然死したような話で、私としても大いに戸惑ってしまいました。先日バラに殺虫剤を噴霧した際、思い切って白バラを根から引き抜きました。
ところが、枯れたと思っていた木が、まだ生きているらしいことが分かって驚きました。地上に出ていた枝木の部分は、枯れて薄緑のカビのようなものをまとっていますが、根はまだみずみずしく生きて呼吸をしているようです。人間であれば、大病に罹ってもまだまだ死んではいないぞと言っているような状態です。
さて、こういう場合の処置としてどうしたらよいのか、はたと困ってしまいました。結局枯れたところの枝木を切り離して、根を含む残りの部分をもう一度元に戻すように植えました。その際新しい土と肥料を施しましたが、はたしてこの治療方法？が正しかったのか分かりません。どうにか再生して欲しいと願うだけです。
さて関係ない話を長々としてしまいましたが、本日も続きの作業に入ります。

In order for end users to run applications based on the Gecko browsing engine, they'll need to have a GRE installed on their systems. By distributing the GRE with an embedding application, we ensure that the application will have the correct version of the GRE for running it. How to decide if a GRE should be installed?
Once a Mozilla based product has been developed, the GRE may be bundled as part of the final product's installation package. The application's installation program can check the registry to determine which version, if any, of the GRE already exists on the machine on which the software is being installed. If an appropriate version of the GRE is not already installed, the user can be prompted to download and install the GRE, or the installation program can install a copy of the GRE that is redistributed with the application.

In essence, if the installation program finds a version of a GRE (it's compatible with) it installs just the application files. If not, it installs both the GRE and the application specific files.
Please note that the process above may result in the installation of a new version of a GRE being installed if the app's install program does not find a compatible GRE on the users machine. In this case, the install program should not attempt to "upgrade" the existing GRE version to a later version the app being installed is compatible with. Instead, the install program must install the newer version of the GRE into a separate directory.
Application installer/uninstaller programs never directly install install/uninstall the GREs - instead they invoke the GRE installer/uninstaller program
