松江市にある国宝の松江城天守では、この１年にたまったほこりを落とす、年末恒例のすす払いが行われました。
松江城天守のすす払いは３０年余り前から毎年、この時期に行われているもので、１７日は地域のボランティアなどおよそ１００人が参加しました。

集まった人たちは、はじめに竹ざおの先にささをくくりつけて作った長さが７メートルほどもある「すす梵天」と呼ばれる道具で、天守の外壁や軒下のほこりを払い落としました。
また屋内では、柱や窓、それに床などをぞうきんを使って丁寧に磨き上げ、この１年でたまった汚れを落としていました。

松江市内では １７日朝にかけて雪が断続的に降り、城の周囲にうっすらと雪が積もるなか、参加したボランティアの人たちはさわやかな汗を流していました。

参加した６０代の男性は「松江城のガイドを務めているので、大切に守り続けたいという思いで掃除をしました。きれいになった松江城に多くの観光客が訪れてほしいです」と話していました。
