今の日本をどう見るか
まず、現在の日本では世界の平和には貢献できない。外交政策が米国の意向で決まり、独立できていないからだ。米国の関心は自国の勝利であって問題の解決ではない。米国が日本の軍拡を期待するのは、北大西洋条約機構（NATO）の国々とも軍事政策で一致していないためだ。米国はイエスマンの日本に慣れきっていて、IS対策でも日本とスクラムを組もうとしている。
ISが残虐なのは皆さんが思っている通りだが、（アメリカ等が）100万人を空爆で殺すことよりも（ISが）100人の首を切る方が残虐だ、と考える人達には同意できない。安保法案が通過したら日本国内でも復讐のテロが起きるかもしれない。もし自衛隊が武力行使するとしたら専守防衛に徹するべきだろう。
国を不安定化させる法“law of insecurity”（安保法案のこと）は、解釈改憲ではなく第9条に違反している。違憲行為は法廷で裁かれるところだが、日本にあるのは法の支配ではなくアメリカの支配だ。本当の独立国になるには、自立した振る舞いをしなくてはならない。
日本の平和運動は活発だが、９条に頼るあまり平和への新しい考え方を発展させてこなかった。野党や学術研究者も、実現可能な代案を出すことに長けていない。紛争を解決するアイデアをもっと生み出すべきだ。
へええ、ロシアや中国にアメリカの属国と呼ばれ、豪州の学者だかにもそういわれ、北欧のど真ん中からみても、日本にあるのは法の支配ではなくアメリカの支配ってみえるんだああ、そうなんだああ。
ふーーーん、そうなんだあ。
日本人だけが、気付いていないのかなああ。

ただ、ここのtogetter の会話でもわかるように、いかんせん日本語が十分できない。
日本の新聞や書籍も自由に読めるわけでもない。そこが彼の限界。

I don't think he is anti-Japanese.
Rather, he is anti-atuhority, methinks: once in a while, he writes critically against the United States and U.S. military, which is rare among foreign correspondents.
However, his Japanese skill is not good enough, as you can see from the conversation above.
Therefore, he has little understanding on the political debates between Japanese leftists and Japanese rightists, between liberals and conservatives.

反米の物語に乗るのは、中核とかの極左と、小林よしりんあたりの右翼くらいで、それも日本の勢力からすると辺縁系。
多様な意見、選択肢をもって日本を強靭化するために、個人的にはもっと反米勢力があってほしいと思うが・・・・
”シリアへの関心の低さ”のシリアを、ウイグルにしても、チベットにしても、エジプトにしても、イエメンにしても、ソマリアにしても、リビアにしても、イラクにしてもナイジェリアにしても、メキシコにしても・・・米軍慰安婦にしても、同じ。
例えば、米軍慰安婦問題など反米の物語にくるむことはできるが、反米っぽく聞こえるが故に、誰も触れたがらない、ということもある。
いずれにせよ、日本のメディアは、海外で何が起きようと、ほぼ無関心。
反米の物語云々は関係ない。
報道もないか、小さいから、国民が無関心なのも当然。

Lee Teng-hui, Taiwan’s president from 1988 to 2000, may have been taken aback by the hostility to comments he made to a Japanese magazine this month. He criticised efforts by Taiwan’s present government to mark the 70th anniversary this year of Japan’s second-world-war surrender as meant to “harass Japan and curry favour with China”. Taiwan, he argued, had been part of Japan: its young men had fought not against the Japanese empire, but for it (the “motherland”, he called it).

This hints at the rosy version of Japan’s imperialist past with which the country’s far right likes to delude itself: Japan as liberator rather than coloniser and, in the second world war, as victim rather than aggressor.
