Daitoryu Aiki Jujutsu Okamoto-sensei comes again and have a seminar in San Francisco and San Mateo.

The abstract as follows:

Nihonden Daitoryu Aiki Jujutsu and essence of Japanese Martial Arts

There are many people who practice martial arts that relies strength and speed.
The person who utilizes those techniques to the maximum usually becomes the winner or come out on top.

That means, a strong arm person, a quicker speed person, a large body person, a young person, becomes advantageous. It means, a strong who possess these characteristics usually would prevail.

A person who does not possess these qualities may win through plain luck by a lucky punch.

However, In the true martial arts field, it is a fact that there are people said to be a master even an old age or small body person.
Unfortunately, their skills which acquired by decades of experiences was considered to be a secret. Or, they have been lost, mistranslated by an individual who could not have understood it properly.

In many Asian martial arts classes, the classes are comprised with learning kata (forms) and then apply the forms in during sparring sessions. Perhaps, many do not understand the meaning of kata. So they all depend on their muscle power and speed.

Only few people notice the importance and meaning of the traditional kata.

In Daitoryu, it has the locking technique, the throwing technique and the striking technique same as another martial arts.

But we should practice and understand well the basic before applying those appropriate techniques and Kata.

What is our basic? It means to practice the body manipulation.

Once we understand body manipulation, we can attain a skill level, which will never be influenced by the speed, power or having a muscle size.


Our basic keiko are start form delicately using the following the parts of our body.

1.Tenouchi (aponeurosis palmaris/Dendons in a palm)
2.Outer layer muscle group
3.Inner layer muscle group

In addition, learning the control of the centroid and axis of each part of our body and psychological approach, our martial arts physical operation is enabled.

Details about above 1.2.3.

1.Tenouchi (aponeurosis palmaris/Dendons in a palm)
Use Guinomi-no-te (Sake cup hand: details per the seminar day.) to keep the wrist and fingers as much as soft. In same time to use the tendons in a palm to link with the opponent. Then we can attack or control without sensed by the opponent.

2.Outer layer muscle group (trapezius muscle, rhomboideus m., pectoral m., serratus anterior m., abdominal m., latissimus dorsi m.)
Mainly, use these 6 muscles to affect the opponent without arm power.

3.Inner layer muscle group (So called Iliopsoas muscle group: Iliac muscle and psoas major muscle)

Those are the muscle for bowing. Use the force to occur when we are about to bow but stop bowing. Let this force connect to those one or more of the outer layer muscle group, then make link to Tenouchi to affect the opponent.

Then we realized that we did not mention about the arm power for sure.
It means, in Daitoryu we do not use any arm power.
If we use the power of the arms, elbows or wrists, the resultant force of above 1.2.3. can be stopped by the strength of another arm.

In a physical confrontation we mainly use our own arm power to attack and defense.

So, as long as we use and rely on muscle strength ,we can read and guess the opponent’s movement. Then no matter the people who has stronger power, speed faster, large body person will be a winner all the time.

But the resulting force of the muscle group above 1.2.3. is beyond strength.
The arm power even with very strong muscles have no way to match the resultant force of them.

Abandon the arm power perfectly and use it as a pipe which conveys the force from your body.
And keep your soft and flexible wrist with using tendons in a palm to link with the opponent.
Then, use the above resultant force 1.2.3.

Using this kind of force without any arm power, even looks like the same movement, the force will be recognized as the abnormal strong force which not to be readable also not to understand of its source.

When an individual feels the abnormal force, he/she will not be able to understand its source, opponent will become stiff whole body by protective reaction. Or will be abandon even the protective reaction and the power of the whole body falls out.

Then as a result such a phenomenon will be caused;

1.A part of opponents body will be stick to your hand and hie power of the whole body falls out and become under your control.
2.The opponent to be blown off by one finger .
3.The opponent will fell the strange force form hand to the deep inside his body and can not move anymore.

When we use those technique, we never have feeling any power to the opponent.
Those force is called Aiki-force and Jujitu-force in Daitoryu.

Link with the opponent very well and transfer your internal force to him,
we should not grip strong his arm, or should not make a strong gripped fist for sure.
Otherwise, the internal force will be stopped at your fist and no any phenomenon will be caused.

Once you master the above body manipulation, it can be use for any type of martial arts.
