scent bag, nioi-bukuro

One of my dear friends sent me a nice scent bag
with a lovely postcard.

It is a small bag which contains something
that has a pleasant smell.

I put it inside the front door.
How nice to be welcomed by a pleasant smell
when I come home.

Thank you, dear friend!

a noble tree

I saw a very impressive and beautiful tree at the top of Mt. Takao last week. It was one of the coldest day in Tokyo as I wrote on Feb. 7th.

The tree stood alone against the blue sky.
It was a tall tree.
It stood firm on the ground.
It stood aloof from other trees, but not isolated.

There was something noble and dignified about the tree.
"What tree is it?" I wondered.

Mt Takao and frost flowers

Yesterday I climbed Mt. Takao for the first time this year.

The temperature was very low. It was the coldest day in Tokyo this year. Frost was formed on the ground and I enjoyed walking on the frost columns.

There was frost on the grass, too. I found very beautiful frost flowers on the dead grassy slopes. Have you ever seen "koori no hana"?

When I visited my daughter in the afternoon, I knew that my daughter, her husband and her son were very busy.

Her daughter, koharu, seemed tired of drawing too much. So I took her out for a walk. She was quite delighted.

My granddaughter and I spent about two hours walking this way and that, talked a lot and enjoyed fair weather in winter.
