Garden Party in NZ

Whenever I see a carpet- like lawn, I remember my homestay in Christchurch, New Zealand. I saw beautiful, green lawns here and there in Christchurch. Schoolyards, exercise grounds, picnic grounds, churchyards or parks---these areas were covered with short grass. Yes, they were carpet-like lawns. I often saw high school students eating lunch in their large, beautiful and green playground. They were enjoying the early summer sun. "Just l ike a scene from some movie, " I thought.

A week after the patriotic concert, about which I had written on Feb. 26, Mrs. G and I were invited to the Garden Party at Brian Law's garden. He was a musical director of the Christchurch City Choir and one of the New Zealand's leading conductors. I was amazed to discover that his garden was as large as a park! The large green carpet was so beautiful. Some trees were coming into bloom, others fruit. Even a narrow stream flowed in his garden. There were a lot of colorful flowers whose name I did not know.

All the dishes were set on the tables. It was very pleasant to talk and eat with wine. I wanted to walk around the garden but it was too large for me to do so during the party. I was afraid I would be lost there in the garden. Anyway, the The Garden Party held by Brian Law was amazing.
