さて、今日もファミリーバケーションの続きを書いていきます。
Okay, I'll keep writing about my family vacation today.
1日目の前半は美味しいランチを食べたり、お気に入りのアートギャラリーを訪ねたりして楽しく過ごしました。
On the first half of the 1st day, we had a nice lunch and visited our favorite gallery.
そして、このバケーションで予約していたキャビンのチェックインの時間が近づいて来たので、そちらに向かう事にし、その道中に食材や飲み物を買いに行きました。
Then, the check-in time at the cabin that we booked for the vacation got closer, so we made a quick stop to get some grocery on the way to the cabin.
Andyっちとパパは酒屋さん係。
Dad and Andy went to the liquor store.
残りの4人はスーパーマーケット係になりました。酒屋さんとスーパーはお向かいさんです。
The rest of us (Mom, Brad, May-chan and I) went to the grocery store which was in front of the liquor store.
で、食料や水を買い込んだ後、ママがAirbnbで見つけてくれたキャビンに向かいました。
We got some food and drinking water and headed to the cabin which Mom found on Airbnb.
これが予約していたキャビン。
This is the cabin we booked.
でね、ここからが予想してなかった展開。
Here's the unexpected story.
キャビンに足を踏み入れた瞬間から強いカビの臭いが。。。
When we stepped in the cabin, the strong moldy smell struck our noses.
Hit-chanはリビングルームにしか入らなかったんですが、ベッドルームやバスルームをチェックしたパパやAndyっちが言うには、ベッドルームの天井には大きな雨漏りの後があり、バスルームの壁には穴が開いていたらしいです。
I didn't go into any room other than the living room, but according to the report from Dad&Andy, they saw a big water stain on the bedroom ceiling and a hall on the wall in the shower room.
ある程度荷物を運び入れた後、皆、リビングルームに集まって家族会議。
After we moved most of the stuff in the cabin from our cars, we gathered and had a meeting in the living room.
正直な意見を聞かれたHit-chan。
They wanted to hear my frank opinion.
「う～ん、快適という訳ではないけど、1週間だけやし何とかなるかなぁ。」と思ったので、「まぁ、大丈夫かな。」と答えましたが、皆は「カビの臭いが酷いなぁ。皆アレルギー持ってるし、特にめいへの影響が心配。」という意見でした。
My honest feeling about the cabin was like "Mmm, it's not a comfortable place to stay at, but I'll be okay just for one week." So, I just said, "It's okay." Though, everybody else's opinion was, "It's really moldy here. Everybody has allergy, and this is especially bad for May."
そんな訳で、家族会議で「ここには泊まれない。」という結論になったんですが、この週はたくさんの人達がバケーションを取る独立記念日の週でした。
So, we reached the conclusion, "We can't stay here." at the point, but it was the 4th of July weekend on which a lot of people take a vacation too.
私達がいる場所はバケーションで人気の地域でホテルもいくつかあるんですが、前述のとおり、この週は独立記念日の週。
We're already in the popular area where several hotels were, but like I just said, it's busy the 4th of July weekend.
「どのホテルも満室の可能性が高いよ！」と言うAndyっち。
Andy said, "All the hotels are probably booked!"
とりあえず、近辺のホテルに片っ端から電話をかけて部屋の空き状況を聞いてみる事に。。。
We didn't have any other choice so decided to call every single hotel around and ask if they had any room available.
今回のAirbnbを探してきてくれたのもママですが、こういう時にも電話をかけたりするのは何故かママなんですよねぇ。
（Hit-chan個人的には皆がかけたら良いのにって思っちゃうんですけどね。）
I don't know why, but in my family, Mom is always in charge of dealing with these things. She took her time to find the cabin on Airbnb for us this time too. So, she started making a phone call from our familiar hotels nearby.
でね、ラッキーな事に、最初にかけたBreezy Pointというリゾート施設に部屋の空きがあったんですよ
And very luckily, the very first hotel that Mom made a contact with had 2 available rooms for us, and it was Breezy Point.
一応、最初の電話では宿泊の値段を聞いて、2軒目のホテルにかけたんですが、こちらは満室でした。
She asked the rate of the rooms on the first call with Breezy Point and then called another hotel. As we expected, the second hotel was all booked.
パパの「とにかく最初の所にかけ直して部屋を押さえてもらった方が良い。」という助言のもと、またママがBreezy Pointにかけてくれ部屋を押さえてくれました。
（何故だか分かりませんが、10%OFFにしてもらえました。）
Dad gave Mom an advice, "You should just call back to Breezy Point and book the rooms now.", and she got the 2 rooms reserved this time.
(I'm not sure, but they gave us 10% off on the total price.)
で、Airbnbの方のオーナーにも連絡を取って、カビ問題で泊ることができないという事を伝えました。（この連絡もママがしてくれました。）
Mom also contacted with the owner of the Airbnb cabin and told him that we couldn't stay there due to the mold issue.
キャンセルポリシーでは、もちろん当日のキャンセルではお金は全く戻ってこないんですが、今回の理由が理由だった為、オーナーの方が返金に応じてくれました。
According to the cancellation policy, we're not supposed to get the money back. Though, the owner got us the refund since it was not our fault.
やっぱり個人がオーナーになっているAirbnbでは、こういう事が起きるのだなぁと勉強になりました。
It was a good lesson for me to learn that you could happen to an unexpected thing like this with an private property booked through Airbnb.
今回のオーナーさんは任意で宿泊代を返金してくれましたが、オーナー次第によっては返金に応じてくれない場合もあるだろうし、どんな部屋、どんなオーナーさんに当たるかは運次第な部分もありますね。
The owner of the cabil voluntarily gave us the refund, but depending on the owner(s), you can not get the money back. Plus that, it's kind of up to luck if you can meet a good property (owner) or not.
それに、今回のAirbnbの物件もそうでしたが、サイトで見ている限りは室内の写真も綺麗でしたし、この物件に泊ったお客さんからのレビューも良かったんですよ。
As far as I looked at some pictures of the cabin on Airbnb website beforehand, they look pretty good, and besides that, the reviews from the past guests on the property and the owner were very good as well.
だから余計に、事前に実際の物件がどんなものなのかを知るのは難しいなぁと実感しました。
So, I just felt that it's very difficult to know what the property really is before you actually see it.
このバケーションの為にママが時間をかけて探してきてくれたのに、こういう風な結果になって本当に申し訳なかったです。
It's too bad that it turned out to be this result though Mom took her time to find this cabin for our vacation.
幸いな事に宿無しだけは回避できた事にホッできた所で、皆、ママへの感謝を込めてハグをしました。
Thankfully, we could avoid the worst situation to sleep in our cars or something and were relieved very much. So, we all gave Mom a hug with gratitude.
一時は「今夜、どうなるの？」という不安に包まれてしまいましたが、無事に問題が解決したので気を取り直してバケーションを楽しむ事にしました。
It felt really uneasy at the point when we were worried, "How can we sleep tonight??" but we could slove the problem and have a fresh start to enjoy the rest of our vacation again.
一旦キャビンに運び込んだ荷物をもう一度車に運び直し、今回の新たな滞在先になったBreezy Pointに向かいました。
After we figured out the new plan, we moved all the stuff back from the cabin to our cars and then headed to Breezy Point.
という事で、まだ1日目の途中です。(笑)
Okay, this is still in the middle of the first day of our vacation. Haha.

お金も全部戻ってきてよかったね！
ママ、本当、頼りにされているのか、優しいから皆丸投げしちゃってるのか、どっちか分かりませんが、たまに見ていて「ボーイズたちも手伝おうよ～。」って思う事もあります。まぁ、当の本人のママは全然気にしてないんですけどね。(笑)
