長文にTRY! 3

There once was a man named Max.  He was an artist and he lived in a temple in Kyoto.  He was allowed to live there because he was interested in Japanese culture.  Although he lived in the temple, he spent most days going everywhere around the city to gather ideas for his art. A usual day for Max began with a healthy breakfast and then a long walk to see many old and beautiful buildings.  He liked to make simple drawings of the places he visited, and then he would use these for his paintings.  Max loved living in Kyoto, and he always said that he could never imagine living anywhere else.

長文にTRY! 2

My father works for a trading company, so he must often visit foreign countries, especially when there is a problem.  On his last trip, my father visited a factory where some workers had made a big mistake that he needed to fix.  Then, he had to rush to the airport to catch his flight back to Japan.  The local taxi driver was friendly, but he was not very careful.  He almost had three accidents on the way to the airport.  Luckily, nothing bad happened and my father could safely return home with a story he could not forget.

長文にTRY! 1

Yesterday I was in a hurry to attend an important meeting.  I had only a slice of bread and a cup of coffee, and went out.  It wasn't very nice weather, but I left home without an umbrella because I was worried about the time.  Soon it began to rain.  My suit was getting wet little by little, so I took shelter from the rain for a while.  Then a gentleman called after me and lent me an umbrella.  He said that he was a friend of my mother's, and he had seen me several times in a photo my mother had shown him.  I thanked him very much.

There are many problems in the world today, but one challenge for society that does not get much attention from the mass media is the problem of abandoned landmines.  According to one source, there are millions of these killers just waiting to explode.  Hundreds of innocent people are badly hurt every day.  We must do something to improve the situation of the people who live where the mines are still buried.  Actually, it is not expensive to remove the mines, but people need to put pressure on their governments to take action and do something more about this terrible situation before more people are hurt or even killed.
