”The End of the World”は、米国のカントリーミュージックの女性歌手、スキータ・デイヴィス（1931～2004）のヒット曲です。1962年12月にＲCAレコードから発売され、世界的にヒット。作曲はアーサー・ケント、作詞はシルビア・ディー。日本では「この世の果てまで」のタイトルで知られていますが、原題を直訳して「世界の終わり」とした方が元の歌詞の意味に近い。多くの歌手によってカバーされています。

これは、前に「T'en va pus」でご紹介した原田知世のアルバム「カコ」の中のカバーバージョンです。
失恋の歌で、「何故鳥たちはこの世が終わったことを知らずに歌い続けるの」と、いかなる場合も人間達の営為に関わらす輝き続ける世界の美しさを軽やに歌っている曲で好きな曲のひとつです。
