『重力ピエロ』

　泉水と春の異父兄弟と良心に衣を着せたような二人の両親の話を、長男泉水の視点で語る。う～ん、おもしろい。

　連続放火事件、DNA、ストーカー、ネアンデルタール人、グラフィティアート、画家、ガンジー、強姦、殺人と様々な話題が次々と登場する。哲学的な話もテンコ盛り。「私たちが後生大事に抱えているものを、もしくは愚かにも信じきっているものを、平然と笑い飛ばしている」（P.266）かのごとく軽快なタッチで描かれているからだろうか、なぜだか読後感は爽やかだ。それに、悪いヤツはアイツとはっきりわかっていること、重要な脇役が皆賢いということも爽やかさの一因かも。

　自分で考えて決断していける心、真実を見つけることのできる目――生きていくためには、そんなものが必要なのだろう。わたしは、「良識をもって生きていけますように」という願いを込めて、息子の名前をつけた。果たして、良識とは何なのだろうか。良識を持つことは本当に可能なのだろうか。小説の世界とは違い、実社会で何ものにも惑わされることなく真実を見抜くのは甚だ難しいことであることに違いない。

bandy-legs＝ugly, not straight legs
辞書で調べると「がに股」となっていますが、外に出ていようと、内に入っていようと、形の悪い足のことを指すようです。この場合はＸ脚でしょうか。
