■P.186 巨人のセリフに出てくるblowed if ～のblowed、「吹く」ではありません。要注意ですねぇ。このblowedはdamnedと同じようなニュアンス。all in a muck sweatを強調しています。それから、comes ofの主語はbeing all in a muck sweatになります。
"Blowed if I ain't all in a muck sweat," said the Giant, puffing like the largest railway engine. "Comes of being out of condition. I suppose neither of you young ladies has such a thing as a pocket-handkerchee about you?"

この場合のblowの過去分詞はblownではなく、blowedと変形します。命令形あるいは受け身で使われるのが一般的。
Blow me [or it]! ちくしょう→困惑・いらだちなどを表す／I'm [or I'll be] blowed if [=Blowed if] …だったら首をやる,断じて…ない→if 節の内容の強い否定.（『ランダムハウス』より）

まもなく読了ですが、『The Magician's Nephew』を読み始める前に、２、３週間キャサリン・パターソンの『Bridge to Terabithia』（邦題『テラビシアにかける橋』）を読むことにします。このニューベリー賞受賞作品で、アメリカの子供たちにとってナルニアがどういう意味を持つ本なのかを見てみましょう。
英語ネイティブとナルニアの話をしていたら、「Aslanは誰だか知っているか？」と聞かれました。「当然」と答えると、「へぇ、そうなんだ、ぼくは小さい頃ナルニアを何回も読んだけど気づかなかった。高校の授業で初めて教えてもらったけれど、そのときは本当にビックリした」と言っていました。こっちの方が「へぇ」です。ルイスの狙い通り、ということでしょうか。『Bridge to Terabithia』（邦題『テラビシアにかける橋』）という児童書には、いかに英語ネイティブのキッズたちが神を意識せずにナルニアに触れているかが描かれている場面があるそうです。
